Taking a big step towards giving new heights to the sports infrastructure in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday performed the Bhoomi Pujan and laid the foundation stone of the International Cricket Stadium. This stadium, to be built at a cost of approximately Rs 393 crore, will not only provide world-class facilities to the players of Purvanchal, but will also give Gorakhpur a new identity on the national and international sports map.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and State Sports Minister Girish Chandra Yadav were also present in the program organized in Tal Nador area. On this occasion, the Chief Minister made another big announcement and said that a world class sports complex will also be developed on 60 acres of land adjacent to the cricket stadium.

Modern stadium with a capacity of 30 thousand spectators

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that this International Cricket Stadium, to be built in an area of ​​46 acres, will be equipped with modern sports facilities. It will have a seating capacity of about 30 thousand spectators and international level competitions can be organised.

State-of-the-art facilities, practice areas, high mast floodlights and modern pavilions will be prepared for the players in the stadium. Along with this, the possibilities of organizing IPL and international cricket matches here will also increase in future.

CM Yogi said that the objective of this project is not only to build a stadium, but also to give a big platform to the youth of Purvanchal to move forward in the field of sports.

Multisports facilities will be available in the sports complex

The Chief Minister announced that a world-class sports complex will be developed on 60 acres of land adjacent to the stadium. Facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports will be available here.

He said that modern grounds and training centers will be prepared for hockey, badminton, volleyball, kabaddi and other sports. With this, Gorakhpur will emerge as a national level sports hub.

CM Yogi said that this project will promote sports culture and a large number of youth will get new career opportunities.

Picture of Tal Nador area will change

Referring to the changes that have taken place in Tal Nador area, the Chief Minister said that a few years ago this area was neglected and affected by illegal encroachments. But now the government has freed this land from encroachment and started using it for development projects.

He said that government land should be used for public welfare and public interest. Under this thinking, work is also being done on veterinary college and other development projects here.

According to the Chief Minister, after the construction of cricket stadium and sports complex, hotels, restaurants, markets and other business activities will also expand rapidly in this area, which will provide employment to the local youth.

Players assured of jobs and incentives

During the program, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated the government’s commitment to the players. He said that till now the state government has given government jobs to about 550 medal winning players through direct recruitment.

He said that soon the recruitment process of 500 more players will be started. Players who win medals in Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth and World Championships will be given opportunities directly in government services.

Enumerating the names of many players, the Chief Minister said that they have been appointed to important posts in UP Police, Administrative Services and Sports Department.

Hardeep Singh Puri praised UP model

Addressing the program, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that after the year 2017, Uttar Pradesh has created a new identity in the field of development, law and order and good governance.

He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, there has been rapid change in the fields of sports, investment and infrastructure in the state. The international cricket stadium to be built in Gorakhpur will give a new direction to the development of Purvanchal.
