This is a new digital initiative by the government that operates on the AgriStack database. Under this system, any farmer registered on AgriStack can use this portal to apply online for their preferred type of fertilizer from a retailer of their choice. Additionally, the government is working on an 'Advance Upliftment' scheme; the aim is to deliver fertilizer stocks to farmers *before* the season begins—specifically prior to the peak sowing period—thereby avoiding sudden overcrowding at distribution centers.

How Have Farmers Benefited from This?

According to a report by *The Economic Times*, the new system has already begun to show tangible results at the grassroots level. Parvar Singh Rajput, a farmer from Vidisha, explains that previously, he could procure only 3 to 4 bags of fertilizer from cooperative societies—and even for that, he had to spend the entire day standing in line. However, booking tokens through the e-Vikas portal has now become extremely easy. Farmers can now effortlessly procure 30 to 40 bags of fertilizer in a single visit, without any unnecessary running around or hassle. This is saving farmers both time and physical effort.

Why Was This New Portal Needed?

According to Agriculture Secretary Nishant Varwade, farmers require fertilizers only at specific times. When the supply fails to match the demand, fertilizer distribution centers witness a sudden surge in crowds. This situation disproportionately harms small farmers, as the fertilizers often fail to reach them altogether. This technology has been introduced specifically to bridge this gap between demand and supply, ensure last-mile delivery of fertilizers, and curb black marketing.
