Indian Railway News: If you are planning to visit home with your family during the summer holidays, this news is for you. To manage overcrowding, the railway administration has decided to operate special trains.
Special Train: The scorching heat across the country has made life difficult for everyone. Consequently, while most of you prefer to travel during the summer holidays, many end up canceling their plans due to heavy crowds. To address this issue—and taking into account both the massive passenger rush and the surging demand for tickets—the railway administration has taken a significant decision to provide major relief to travelers.
What is the Railway Administration's Major Decision?
Keeping in mind the heavy passenger rush and the rising demand for tickets during the summer holidays, the Railway Department has taken a landmark decision. Specifically, a major decision has been made to launch a new weekly summer special train (05064/05063) connecting Gomti Nagar in Lucknow (the capital of Uttar Pradesh) to Khordha Road in Odisha, via Gorakhpur. Furthermore, this train will operate for a total of four trips, ensuring that passengers from the Purvanchal region, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha do not face any travel-related difficulties.
A key highlight of these special trains is that they offer an excellent connectivity option linking North India with the states of Eastern India; the complete schedule for these services has now been released.
Gomti Nagar to Khordha Road (Train No. 05064)
Specifically, this weekly summer special train will depart from Lucknow every Thursday at 06:55 PM, running from May 28, 2026, to June 18, 2026. En route, the train will pass through Gonda and Basti before arriving at Gorakhpur at 12:15 AM. Subsequently, making stops at major stations such as Deoria Sadar, Mau, Aunrihar, Jaunpur, Varanasi, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Sasaram, Gaya, Koderma, Gomoh, Adra, Bankura, Medinipur, Hijli, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Bhubaneswar, it will reach Khordha Road at 02:25 AM on the third day.

Conversely, for the return journey, this train will depart from Khordha Road every Saturday at 12:45 PM, operating from May 30, 2026, to June 20, 2026. Traversing through other major stations, the train will arrive at Gorakhpur station at 03:00 PM the following day—i.e., Sunday—and from there, proceeding via Basti and Gonda, it will return to Gomti Nagar at 08:00 PM.
What are the Special Amenities, in Addition to Modern Coaches?
Keeping the comfort of every category of passenger in mind, the railway administration has taken a significant decision to deploy a total of 20 coaches on this special train. With the inclusion of AC First, Second, and Third Class coaches, long-distance passengers are ensured a hassle-free journey.
Furthermore, in addition to the Sleeper Class and General Class—where passengers can enjoy a comfortable night's rest—a special provision of Unreserved Coaches has also been made available for passengers undertaking short-distance or immediate travel. Moreover, special arrangements for a Luggage-cum-Generator coach have been implemented to ensure the safe storage of passengers' heavy luggage and to guarantee an uninterrupted power supply throughout the train.
Summer Vacation Travel Made Easier
These special trains are nothing short of a boon for those planning to visit their hometowns with their families during the summer holidays. A key feature of these trains is that they will significantly alleviate the pressure on the waiting list, thereby effectively reducing both overcrowding and the surging demand for tickets.
