Why were Jadeja and Axar dropped? (PC-PTI)
Team India has been announced for the ODI series and Test match against Afghanistan. Ravindra Jadeja and Akshar Patel have not got a place in both these teams. The decision to drop both the players from the ODI team is shocking the cricket fans, however, the reason for dropping Akshar and Jadeja has been given by Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar himself. Ajit Agarkar told that the ODI World Cup is still far away and hence Team India wants to try other options also.
Ajit Agarkar held a press conference after the selection of Team India and he said, 'If we talk about ODI cricket, there are still 15-16 months left for the ODI World Cup. We want to try more options. Especially the conditions of South Africa are in our mind and we want to give opportunities to new players. We know what Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja can do, at this time we want to give opportunities to other players.
There were discussions that Mohammed Shami might return to Team India but it did not happen. Ajit Agarkar also gave the reason for this. Ajit Agarkar said, 'We have been told that Mohammed Shami is still ready for T20 cricket, hence his name was not discussed at all.' The big thing is that Yashasvi Jaiswal has also not got a place in the Indian ODI team, he has been dropped from the team. Jaiswal played the ODI series against South Africa in which he scored a brilliant century but now he has not been selected in the team.
