Sangrur: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today launched a unique and historic initiative of its kind by laying the foundation stone of a project to underground electric wires in his native village Satuj to make Punjab the country’s first state with pole-free villages.

In a major relief to the farmers and villagers, the Bhagwant Mann government has started grounding the electric wires to prevent incidents of crop fire and fatal accidents and to eliminate frequent power cuts due to overhead lines, which will free the villages from dangerous poles and tangled wires.

Big success under pilot project

Under this pilot project, 384 electric poles will be removed in Satauj and underground cables will be laid without digging the roads. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann described this project as the beginning of “Roshan Punjab” based on modern infrastructure, uninterrupted power supply and safe villages.

Describing the ‘Satauj Model’ as an example for the entire country, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has fulfilled its promise to the farmers of Punjab to make villages wire-free. He said that with underground power supply, the politics regarding installation of electric poles in villages will also end.

Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Today is a historic day for the villages of Punjab because a comprehensive project to free the villages from the web of electrical wires and unnecessary poles is being started from here. Under this pilot project, the overhead electrical wires in Satauj will be razed to the ground at a cost of about Rs 8 crore. This is the first such project in the country and with this initiative, Punjab will emerge as a model project for the entire country.”

Mann presented figures

Giving information about the technical details of the project, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Under this project, 7 kilometer high tension (HT) lines, 9.5 kilometer low tension (LT) lines and 41 kilometer service cable connecting the houses of 800 consumers will be laid underground. Three 11 KV feeders connected to the village from the 66 KV grid of Satuj and 28 transformers connected to it. All the high tension lines will be grounded. After this, all the low tension lines from 28 transformers to the meter boxes will also be grounded.

The Chief Minister further said, “The cables connecting the meter boxes to all the houses will also be buried, due to which 384 unnecessary electric poles will be removed. The specialty of this project is that there will be no need to dig roads to lay the buried cables because trenchless (without digging) drilling machines will be used to lay the buried pipes. These pipes will be laid three feet below the ground, which will prove to be a boon for the common people.”

Referring to the dangers of overhead electrical wires, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Electrical poles and overhead wires pose a danger of electrocution to animals and people, especially children. Accidents often occur when tractors, combines and other vehicles come in contact with overhead wires. Similarly, farmers suffer huge losses due to incidents of fire in crops. Rain, storms and strong winds break poles and wires, affecting power supply. And the Power Corporation suffers financial loss.” The Chief Minister said that the network of poles and wires also affects the beauty of the villages.

Bhagwant Mann said ‘transmission and distribution losses will reduce’

Describing this project as beneficial for the people from every aspect, the Chief Minister said that with the grounding of high tension and low tension lines, electricity leakage will be eliminated, which will reduce transmission and distribution losses. Villages will get uninterrupted electricity supply, accidents due to ungrounded wires will be reduced, incidents of crop fires due to electrical wires will be prevented and rains and strong winds will no longer be able to hinder the power supply. Removing unnecessary poles and tangled wires will further improve the beauty of the villages.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this project will be considered a milestone in the history of Punjab. The Chief Minister said, “This project is being started from my birthplace and this day will be written in golden letters in the history of Punjab. From this village, the Punjab Government has started a project which no other state in the country has even thought of till now. This project has become possible because today my dream is coming true. The dream of this project was seen many years ago.”

The Chief Minister further said, “Today’s initiative is directly to the lives of common people. In the coming days, these electric poles will become history.” Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann became emotional while remembering the tragic incident of his village. He said, “Three youths from this village lost their lives after being electrocuted by a combine machine. They were the only earning members of their families. This project is a tribute to those youth as such tragic incidents should never happen in future.”

The whole country will benefit

Describing this initiative as a model of change for the country, the Chief Minister said, “The ‘Satauj Model’ will be known across the country to provide great relief to the people of villages and cities.” The Chief Minister said that the world was talking about establishing colonies on Mars, while our people were still entangled in the issues of streets and drains. The Chief Minister said that the Punjab Government has started a digital revolution in the state.

R.T.O. The services have been digitalized and ‘Easy Registry’ system has been implemented in simple language. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann further said, “Earlier the registry documents were prepared in complex language, which were not understood by the common people, due to which they had to make rounds of offices. But now people can get their registration done from any tehsil of their district.”

Mentioned about anti-sacrilege law

Referring to the Punjab government’s anti-sacrilege law, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The Punjab government has made a strict law against sacrilege, which has a provision of punishment up to life imprisonment, so that in future no one can dare to sacrilege Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Akal Purukh has blessed me with the opportunity to serve humanity through ‘Jagat Jyoti Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act-2026’.” In which there is a provision for strict punishment for sacrilege.”

The Chief Minister further said, “Previous governments neither had the intention nor the will to make laws to stop sacrilege, due to which sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji became common during their rule. But this Act passed by the Punjab Government will completely end it as no one will dare to commit this unpardonable crime.”

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann further said, “The Punjab Government is fully committed to the sanctity and respect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and to ensure strict action against anyone involved in incidents of sacrilege. The Government is committed to the Sikh values and sentiments of the people. This land has witnessed an era which shook the hearts of the entire Sikh community to the core. The Punjab Government has now enacted this law so that such incidents do not happen in future. Just a few “Selected people, who consider themselves a sect, are opposing it because their hands are stained with incidents of sacrilege.”

Highlighting the health care initiatives of the Punjab government, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “‘Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana’ has been launched, under which health cards are being issued to all 65 lakh families of Punjab. Every family is entitled for free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh. More than 30 lakh beneficiaries have received health cards, while 1.65 lakh people have got free treatment under the scheme. I appeal to the people to avail of these cards as much as possible. Take advantage.”

The Chief Minister further said, “Punjab Government has launched ‘Mavan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’, under which every woman will be given Rs 1,000 per month and Rs 1,500 per month to Scheduled Caste women. The Samman amount will be directly transferred to bank accounts and women receiving social security pension will also be eligible. About 97 percent of the women of Punjab are expected to get the benefit of this scheme, for which the Punjab Government has kept Rs 9,300 crore in the budget. Are.”
