On Wednesday, May 20, new rates of petrol and diesel have been released across the country. Like every day, today also oil companies have updated the latest fuel prices at 6 am. The relief news for the drivers this morning was that there has been no change in the prices of petrol and diesel. That is, at present the oil prices have remained completely stable, due to which the general public has heaved a sigh of relief.
However, amidst this news of relief, it is also true that the increase in prices twice in the last one week had had a deep impact on the pockets of common people. In such a situation, it has now become very important for the drivers to check the latest rates of their city before leaving home. If we talk about big metros of the country, today in the country’s capital Delhi, petrol is standing at Rs 98.64 and diesel at Rs 91.58 per liter. Whereas in big cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Noida and Gurugram, the old rates are applicable. That means today neither petrol has become expensive nor has there been any increase in the price of diesel.
The prices of petrol and diesel differ due to tax (VAT) rates in different states and cities of the country. Let us know through the table at what price fuel is being sold in major cities of the country today.
| city name | Petrol price (per litre) | Diesel price (per litre) |
| Delhi | ₹98.64 | ₹91.58 |

If you also want to know the latest price of your city on your mobile every morning without any hassle, then this task is very easy. Government oil companies have started a special SMS service for this. Indian Oil (IOC) customers can send the message ‘RSP with CITY CODE’ to 9224992249 from their phones. Similarly, BPCL customers can send a message to 9223112222 and HPCL customers can simply send ‘RSP’ to 9222201122 and get the latest rates on their phones within seconds.
Even though the prices are stable today, if we look at the record of the last one week, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased by about Rs 4 per liter. First of all, on May 15, the oil companies gave a big blow and increased the price by about Rs 3 per liter. After this, the general public could not even control that on May 19, it was again increased by about 90 paise per liter.
In fact, the prices of crude oil were continuously increasing in the international market for a long time, but despite this, the government oil companies of the country were keeping the rates stable in the domestic market for a long time. Due to continuous increase in cost of crude oil and lack of increase in domestic prices, huge financial pressure has increased on the companies. Finally, in view of their increasing losses, companies made petrol and diesel expensive twice last week. In this matter, the government says that by increasing the prices, the losses of the companies have been reduced to some extent, but the pressure on the oil companies is still not completely over.
