1. Water conservation is necessary to ensure we have enough clean water for the future.

2. We must preserve our forests because they play a vital role in protecting our water sources.

3. Water security is a major global issue because many people still don't have access to safe drinking water.

5. Freshwater is a limited resource, so we should not waste it for unnecessary things.

Activity 2

Answer the questions based on the dialogue.

1. What is the dialogue about?

Answer: The dialogue is about the difficulties in finishing a project.

2. What makes Tom feel that way?

Answer: He finds it difficult to finish the project on time.

He was running out time.

3. How many arguments does Tom state? What are they?

Answer: Three arguments, they are:

  • First, the time is very short.
  • Second, he finds difficult to find the right form of presentation.
  • Third, he couldn’t make his text simple so there are too many slides in his presentation.

4. What do you think about Tom?

Answer: Even though he feels overwhelmed, he doesn't burden others and continues to work on his own to do his schoolwork.

Tom is also persistent and unyielding to the end.

However, he needs to realize that it's okay to ask others for help when he's struggling or feeling stuck with schoolwork.

Activity 3:

1. What is the thesis of the text?

4. How many arguments does the writer state? What are they?

5. What data does the writer present to support the argument?

6. What is the writer’s reasons for water conservation?

7. What does the author suggest regarding water conservation?

8. Do you think that the last sentence of the text is an appropriate reiteration of the thesis? Why? Why not?

9. “Pumping, treating, and distributing water requires a significant amount of energy.” (par. 5) Do you agree with the statement? Why?

10. What would you do if you saw that the water tap in your school toilet was leaking and dripping water continuously? 

Jawaban:

1. The thesis is that water is essential for life, ecosystems, agriculture, industry, and human well-being, which makes water conservation increasingly important.

2. The writer’s position is pro-water conservation. The writer strongly believes that conserving water is a vital necessity for both the present and the future.

3. The text is about the importance of water conservation and the various reasons why we need to save water.

4. The writer states four arguments:

- Protecting ecosystems and biodiversity.

- Ensuring food security for agriculture.

- Saving money for individuals and businesses.

- Reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.

5. The writer presents logical facts, such as:

- The connection between water pumping/distribution and energy consumption.

- The fact that households save money on bills when consumption is reduced.

- The relationship between water conservation and healthy ecosystems.

6. To protect ecosystems, ensure food security, save money, and reduce energy consumption.
