Thomas Tuchel is reportedly concerned about the sleeping arrangements of the England men’s national football team during the upcoming World Cup 2026 in North America.
The England team, under the guidance of coach Thomas Tuchel, may face difficulties in maintaining optimal rest during the tournament due to unexpected issues with their accommodation.
Tuchel, known for emphasizing the importance of quality sleep in physical and mental recovery, might have to tackle an unusual problem that could affect the team’s rest and preparation.
The England men’s team will be staying at The Inn at Meadowbrook hotel in Kansas City for the duration of the summer competition.
However, according to reports from BILD, several past guests have complained about strange noises and inadequate soundproofing in the hotel rooms.
One guest wrote in a 2024 review: “We have stayed here twice and were both times surprised by the lack of soundproofing. We could hear the ‘pleasurable activities’ of a couple in the next room.”
The same review continued: “Soundproofing was clearly a poor consideration at this hotel.” Another visitor also mentioned discomfort caused by “rock-hard pillows and mattresses.”
To improve the team’s quality of sleep, the Football Association (FA) has decided to send specially designed ‘sleep kits’ to the Kansas City accommodation, continuing a tradition from previous tournaments.
These kits will include custom mattress toppers and pillows tailored to each player’s body, with gel-based pillows to help regulate temperature during rest.
Even before Tuchel’s appointment, the FA had previously installed blackout blinds in the England team’s accommodation during the 2018 World Cup in St. Petersburg and used similar sleep aids during Euro 2024.
Tuchel has previously worked with sleep and meditation specialist Dr. Ulrich Bauhofer during his tenure at Borussia Dortmund, showing a deep interest in how sleep quality can boost athletic performance.
The use of sleep-support measures seems to have delivered results for England in the past — the team reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and the final of Euro 2024, where they lost to Croatia and Spain respectively.
As the 2026 World Cup approaches, it remains to be seen whether the FA’s latest sleep-enhancing initiatives will help the England squad overcome the challenges of their hotel environment and potentially guide them to a historic tournament victory.
