First wash the moong dal and soak it in water for 4 to 5 hours. After that remove the excess water and grind the dal thickly in a mixer. Do not make the paste too thin. Heat milk, sugar and saffron in a pot. When sugar dissolves completely, add cardamom powder and keep the mixture aside. Heat ghee in a pan and lightly roast semolina and gram flour in it. Then mix the split moong dal. Fry this mixture on low flame till the dal turns golden in color and smells nice. After the dal is roasted properly, slowly add the prepared milk-sugar mixture to it. Keep the heat low and stir constantly to prevent the mixture from burning. When the halwa thickens, add finely chopped almonds, cashews and pistachios. When the ghee starts to separate, turn off the gas. Stir in hot moong dal and serve with dry fruits. If you want, you can add some khawa to increase its taste. This halwa can be a great choice for festivals, parties or special guests.
