Arsenal could be ready to raid Manchester City once again, with reports suggesting a surprising move for one of Pep Guardiola’s midfielders.

The Gunners have emerged as a potential destination for a Manchester City player, adding another twist to the ongoing rivalry between the two Premier League title challengers.

Mikel Arteta’s side have enjoyed an excellent week with results favouring them in both the Premier League and the Champions League. With Arsenal and City still in contention for the title, the season’s conclusion could bring more drama on and off the pitch.

As both clubs begin to plan their summer transfer strategies, it appears that the two rivals might once again find themselves across the negotiation table.

Arsenal’s transfer dealings with Manchester City have become familiar in recent years, with Arteta’s own history at the Etihad Stadium following his retirement in 2016 strengthening that connection.

In 2022, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus made their switch from Manchester to North London, while Raheem Sterling had a brief loan spell at the Emirates Stadium last season. Since then, however, there haven’t been any major transactions between the two clubs as their on-field rivalry has intensified.

That could change soon, with the future of Tijjani Reijnders reportedly uncertain.

The Dutch midfielder began the season impressively, starring in City’s away win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, but has recently seen his playing time reduced. After joining from Milan last summer, Reijnders has struggled to maintain consistency in his debut campaign in English football.

According to Caught Offside, Arsenal are among several clubs monitoring the player’s situation closely, with Reijnders expected to hold discussions with Manchester City at the end of the season.

City are planning to reinforce their midfield in the upcoming transfer window, especially with players like Elliot Anderson being targeted and Bernardo Silva possibly departing. This could leave Reijnders’ role in the squad uncertain.

However, FourFourTwo reports that while Arsenal remain attentive to developments, they are not currently preparing an official bid for the 27-year-old, with other midfield targets considered higher priorities.

Arteta is believed to be in the market for a new defensive midfielder, particularly after Christian Norgaard’s limited involvement since his move from Brentford last year. Nonetheless, the rise of young talent Myles Lewis-Skelly in central areas could influence Arsenal’s transfer plans.

In addition to midfield reinforcements, the Gunners are also exploring options for a new right-back and attacking additions ahead of next season.
