Manchester United’s search for a new manager is gaining momentum, and one of the leading contenders has provided an update regarding his future plans.

As the Premier League season nears its conclusion, Manchester United’s managerial hunt is intensifying. Michael Carrick’s tenure as interim head coach is set to end this summer. However, a strong run of seven victories in nine matches has boosted the former midfielder’s chances of securing the role on a permanent basis.

United’s impressive form has lifted the team to third place in the Premier League, and qualification for the Champions League could further enhance the appeal of the position for potential candidates eager to take charge at Old Trafford.

The club has experimented with various managerial profiles since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013 — from proven winners like Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal to club icons such as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Carrick himself.

Ruben Amorim, United’s most recent permanent manager, was regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches. However, his 14-month stint will be remembered for leading the club to their lowest-ever Premier League finish — 15th place last season.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, aged 43, has emerged as another highly-rated young coach in the mix. The former Spain defender took charge of the Cherries in 2023 and guided them to a 12th-place finish in his debut season before improving to ninth place in the following campaign. However, his contract expires this summer.

Speaking about his future, Iraola provided an interesting update. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano quoted him as saying, “My future? I will make a decision on the contract here at Bournemouth sooner rather than later.”

Iraola is expected to hold discussions with Bournemouth during the upcoming international break, which begins after this weekend’s domestic fixtures.

Coincidentally, Manchester United are set to face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Friday night, bringing together two potential candidates for the permanent managerial position at Old Trafford.

United are not the only club monitoring Iraola’s situation. Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace are also reportedly interested in the Spaniard.

Palace’s interest could be particularly significant, as their current manager Oliver Glasner, who is set to depart this summer, has also been linked with the Manchester United job. Glasner led Palace to their first major trophy by winning the FA Cup last season but has endured a challenging campaign this time around.

Manchester United’s hospitality packages offer fans comfortable padded seats in the North West Quadrant, along with a concourse meal deal that includes hot food, a drink, and a snack, plus the official matchday programme. Guests also benefit from a 10% discount at the Megastore and complimentary entry to the Museum on non-matchdays, creating a family-friendly and value-for-money experience for home supporters.
