Following Dani Carvajal’s confirmed exit last week, Real Madrid have now officially announced that experienced defender David Alaba will also leave the club after tomorrow’s fixture against Athletic Club.

“Real Madrid CF and David Alaba have mutually agreed to bring an end to his time as a player for our club at the conclusion of the current season,” read the official statement released by the club.

“Real Madrid wishes to express its heartfelt thanks and affection to a player who has been part of a team that has enjoyed one of the most successful eras in our history.”

Alaba joined Real Madrid in 2021 as a free agent after ending his long association with Bayern Munich.

The Austrian international quickly established himself as a leader within the squad and played a pivotal role during Real Madrid’s triumphant 2021/22 season, when the team secured the La Liga title, the UEFA Champions League, and the Spanish Super Cup.

However, recurring injuries began to affect Alaba’s time at the club in the following seasons, restricting his appearances on the pitch. Despite these setbacks, he remained a vital presence in the dressing room and contributed effectively whenever he was fit to play.

Alaba bids farewell to Los Blancos after making 131 appearances over five seasons, during which he lifted 11 trophies, including two UEFA Champions League titles and two La Liga championships.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez also paid tribute to the Austrian defender in the official announcement, stating: “David Alaba has earned the admiration and affection of all Madridistas for his commitment, hard work, and for an iconic image during our journey to the 14th European Cup, which became a symbol of victory and is now etched into the club’s history.”

He further added, “Real Madrid will always be his home.”

Alaba will make his final appearance at the Santiago Bernabeu tomorrow as Real Madrid face Athletic Club in their last match of the season.
