Manchester United have intensified their search for midfield reinforcements, with multiple reports emerging today pointing towards a move for Atalanta’s Brazilian midfielder Ederson.
The 26-year-old has impressed as both a deep-lying playmaker and a box-to-box midfielder, and his versatility is something the Red Devils are keen to add to their squad.
Earlier speculation indicated that United would need to pay around £42 million plus add-ons for the Brazilian. However, journalist Eduardo Burgos has now suggested that the Old Trafford side could complete the transfer for a reduced amount.
Writing in Diario AS, Burgos stated, “Manchester United have their eyes on Ederson and are ready to propose a deal worth approximately €45 million plus bonuses to Atalanta for the player.”
He further explained, “Atalanta would be willing to accept the offer, as it would help them avoid the risk of losing the Brazilian for free when his contract expires in June 2027.”
The report also mentions that United are eager to finalise the deal before the summer transfer window officially opens on 15 June.
“It’s time for Ederson to play his final 90 minutes in Italy before saying farewell and beginning a new chapter. United want him to become a Red Devil before the World Cup and sign a five-year deal,” the report added.
While some supporters may have hoped for a more high-profile signing similar to Elliot Anderson, the reality is that the English midfielder reportedly favours a move to Manchester City over United.
As previously reported by The Peoples Person, United view Ederson as a “category B” market option rather than their top-tier midfield target.
This essentially positions Ederson as a backup to United’s primary midfield signing, which, at present, could potentially be Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali.
Other midfielders under consideration include Carlos Baleba, Alex Scott, and Aurélien Tchouaméni. It remains to be seen how many players INEOS will manage to secure and what their plans will be for Manuel Ugarte once the window opens.
