Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has been officially crowned the Premier League Player of the Season following a stellar 2025/26 campaign.
Once again, Fernandes has been instrumental for United, guiding the team to a third-place finish and ensuring qualification for the Champions League.
The Portuguese midfielder has scored eight goals and provided 20 assists this season, matching the Premier League record jointly held by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.
As United prepare to face Brighton & Hove Albion in their final fixture of the 2025/26 season on Sunday, Fernandes still has the opportunity to surpass both legends and become the league’s outright assist leader.
The Portugal international has already collected multiple honours this year, including Manchester United’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards. Additionally, he was named Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association.
It has now been officially confirmed that Fernandes is the Premier League’s Player of the Season winner.
Fernandes outperformed tough competition from Arsenal trio Gabriel, David Raya and Declan Rice; Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo; Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White; and Brentford’s Igor Thiago to claim the prestigious individual award.
At 31, Fernandes becomes the seventh Manchester United player to win this honour. The previous winners from the club include Peter Schmeichel, Dwight Yorke, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidic and Wayne Rooney.
The Premier League Player of the Season award has been presented since the 1994/95 campaign.
Ronaldo and Vidic jointly hold the record for the most wins, with two each. Vidic was the last Manchester United player to secure the award before Fernandes.
This season also marks the first time since Kevin De Bruyne’s 2019/20 triumph that a player outside the title-winning team has been recognised with this accolade. De Bruyne had registered 20 assists during that season.
Fernandes will now turn his attention to the PFA Player of the Year award before joining the Portugal national team ahead of this summer’s World Cup, which will be held across the USA, Mexico and Canada.
