Liverpool eyeing replacement for recent signing after underwhelming debut season: report

One of Liverpool’s recent transfer targets could spell trouble for a player who joined the club just last summer.

Liverpool’s transfer activity during the previous summer window was widely regarded as one of the most ambitious in modern Premier League memory.

Following a relatively quiet year before that, the Reds showcased their financial strength by signing Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez.

The expectation was that these additions would help Liverpool defend their Premier League crown, but the campaign has not gone according to plan.

The new signings, with the exception of the now-injured Ekitike, have found it difficult to make a meaningful impression at Anfield, and the overall season has been a letdown.

One of those recent arrivals may now face a further drop in the team hierarchy.

Jeremie Frimpong, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen, has struggled to replicate his Bundesliga form, managing only 10 starts in the Premier League.

The lively and attack-minded right-back who once shone in Germany has yet to find his rhythm in England, prompting Liverpool to consider an alternative in that position.

As per Tuttomercatoweb, Liverpool continue to monitor Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries.

The Merseyside club reportedly made a loan approach for the Dutch international during the January window, but their proposal was rejected.

This move indicates that manager Arne Slot remains unsatisfied with his current options at right-back, particularly with Conor Bradley sidelined since January due to injury.

Dumfries reportedly has a £21.7 million release clause in his Inter contract, and several major European clubs are said to be keen on securing his services this summer.

One potential concern for Liverpool could be his age — Dumfries recently turned 30 — which contrasts with the club’s usual preference for signing younger players.

Nevertheless, Dumfries represents a more experienced and proven performer compared to Frimpong, who, despite being five years younger, has yet to fully adjust to the demands of Premier League football.
