Tensions reached boiling point on the eve of Juventus Turin’s crucial Champions League qualification decider, as uncertainty and unrest gripped the club.
Disorder unfolded ahead of the highly anticipated Turin derby between Juventus and Torino, scheduled for the final matchday of the Serie A season.
In the hours leading up to kick-off, violent confrontations broke out between rival supporter groups. According to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport, police detained eight Juventus fans following the clashes. Several individuals sustained injuries, with at least one person reported to be in serious condition.
The match, originally set to begin at 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, was delayed over safety concerns following the disturbances. During the warm-up session, sections of Juventus supporters urged the team not to proceed with the game.
As tensions escalated, players temporarily returned to the dressing room while captain Manuel Locatelli attempted to calm the crowd. However, supporters warned the midfielder that they would storm the pitch if play went ahead.
Juventus entered the derby determined to secure a victory that would confirm their place in next season’s Champions League.
Around 9:30 p.m., the players emerged once more at Stadio Torino to continue their preparations. Kick-off was rescheduled to 9:50 p.m., after security personnel cleared the section occupied by visiting fans.
With two Champions League qualification berths still undecided going into the final round of Serie A fixtures, Juventus—sitting in sixth place—needed a win to surpass at least two of their direct rivals: AC Milan, AS Roma, and Como.
