Gandhinagar, May 23, 2026: from gujarat By modernizing the roads, we are moving towards environmentally friendly sustainable development. In this year’s budget, provision was made to use climate resilient and new technology in the construction of roads at a cost of ₹ 1147 crore. According to this, work is going to start on 20 routes in various districts of the state with the help of this green technology. In this process, the road will be constructed by reusing the old material of Hayat Road, which will reduce the cost and promote environment friendly process.
Lanwa-মন্দ-সনদের-বালিসানা Road (Patan), Radhanpur-Mashali-Madhapura Road (Patan), Bhidiya Somnath Road (গির Somnath), Santrampur- Jhalod Road (Mahisagar), Dayadra- Nabipur- Zanore Road (Bharuch), Elaw- Kosamba Road (Bharuch), Morbi-Nani Vavdi- Bagthala Road. (Morbi), Surendranagar Bypass Road (Surendranagar), Dindoli-Kardava-Iklera Road (Surat), Mangalej-Nareshwar Road (वैडोडरा), Kosindra-Bhakha Road (Chhota Udepur), Karjan-Amod Road (वॉडोडरा), Isarwada- Undel Road (Anand), Valam- Kadi Road (महेसाना), पेपुलू- कपरा Road (महेसाना), लुनी-गुन्डाला-पत्री-टप्पर- Babiya Road (कृच्च), वदताल- जॉल- बकरोल Road (Anand), टालाजा-गोपनाथ रॉड (भावनगर), Kalavd- जामवंथली- फैला रॉड (जामनगर) and कोथारा approach road (नर्मदा).
On these routes, work including road widening, RCC gutterline, resurfacing, protection work, four lanes, earthwork, rumble strip, road furniture, side shoulder, white topping, glass grid will be done as per the requirements of different roads. Work on these roads will be done according to environment-friendly (climate resilient) and new technology.
green technologyOld material from Hayat Road is used in its operation. In this, the road is uprooted and lime stone is laid there. This material is pulverized and stabilized by rolling. After this, the old material uprooted by the road is pelted with stones and dry rolling is done. After that, cement stones are spread on it using a cement spreader machine and the cement is stabilized with chemicals. Then its leveling and compaction is done with pad foot roller, grader and pneumatic tire roller. After seven days of this operation non-woven material-stress absorbing membrane (SAMI) The stones are covered with asphalt covering. SAMI is a type of high-tech fiber sheet, which is used before laying asphalt. They prevent ruts from rising up, help in absorbing the pressure of vehicles and increase the life of the road.
In this technology, materials like soil and metal from old pavement are reused. Due to this, costs have reduced and the road base has become stronger. With the help of this technology, we can improve the base which is necessary to maintain the road for a long time, which increases the strength of the road and also reduces the need for frequent repairing work on it. This operation not only reduces carbon emissions but also saves natural resources.
Reconstruction of Jambusar-Tankali-Devla road in Bharuch using green technology has been approved at a cost of ₹ 50 crore. This route connects the Pharmaceutical Bulk Drug Park near Jambusar and is the main route connecting the ONGC plant. Apart from this, it also provides connectivity to the sweet farming area near Deola. This road is also an important state highway connecting Jambusar to Vadodara district for shrimp farming ponds near the sea coast. Due to this, it provides direct connectivity with other parts of the country through railway, airport and expressway from Vadodara. In this way, by getting direct connectivity to various units, this route will be of great benefit from the industrial point of view.
A brief overview of some new technologies and designs in road construction:
West Plastic Road : Plastic is mixed with asphalt.
white topping: Concrete is laid on old asphalt.
Geogrid and Glass Grid:Polymer mesh (grid) and fiber glass grid stones are used to make strong roads. Geogrid is more helpful in potty soil. Helps in distributing the weight of the road. Glass grid is placed between the asphalt layer. It increases the longevity of the road and gives strength.
cold mix asphalt: Use of asphalt mix without heating makes it useful even during monsoon season.
cement stabilization: Cement mixture is used to make a strong layer in the road base or soil.
fly ash: Coal powder from thermal power plants is used in road construction.
Interlocking Pavers: Small concrete blocks are laid by locking them together.
paneled concrete: Construction of road by laying separate slabs of concrete instead of building the road together.
perpetual pavement: Building a strong road with multiple layers. The maintenance costs of this road remain low and the road remains operational for a long time.
