Erling Haaland has delivered a strong message to the rest of the Premier League, urging Manchester City to transform the disappointment of losing the title to Arsenal into motivation for the upcoming season. The Norwegian forward looked visibly frustrated after City’s title hopes officially ended following a draw against Bournemouth.
City’s title hopes end at Bournemouth
Manchester City’s challenge for the Premier League crown came to a close on a tense night at the Vitality Stadium. A 1-1 draw with Bournemouth confirmed Arsenal as champions with one game still left in the 2025-26 season.
Despite Haaland scoring a late equaliser to keep the dream alive, Pep Guardiola’s men were unable to find the decisive winner they needed to prolong the title race. The draw cemented City’s position as runners-up — a result Haaland has urged his teammates to remember as fuel for future success.
Haaland calls for renewed determination
Speaking moments after the final whistle, Haaland did not hide his disappointment. He stressed that the squad must turn their frustration into drive, making it clear that finishing second is not acceptable for a club of City’s calibre.
“In the end, every match in the Premier League is tough. We gave everything, but it wasn’t enough,” Haaland told City Studios. “Everyone in the club should take this as motivation. We should be angry, we should feel that fire inside because this is below our standards. It’s been two years now, it feels like forever. Next season, every one of us who will still be here must do everything possible to win the league.”
FA Cup final fatigue takes its toll
The striker also admitted that City felt the effects of their recent FA Cup final victory over Chelsea when they faced Bournemouth. “It’s never easy to play here, especially after a final against a top team,” said the Norway international. “Finals are always more emotional, and you give everything you have. The schedule is demanding. There are no excuses, but playing at Bournemouth right after a Wembley final isn’t easy.”
Reflecting on the season, which included triumphs in both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, Haaland added: “Everything is relative. It was better than last season. I felt we could have pushed a bit more in the league, but it’s done now. Winning two trophies is important, but we also want the Premier League.”
Haaland closing in on another Golden Boot
Even though Manchester City fell short in the title race, Haaland remains on track for individual glory. With 27 goals this season, he is in pole position to claim his third Premier League Golden Boot in four years. Brentford’s Igor Thiago is his nearest rival with 22 goals, eight of which have come from penalties. With just one match to go, it appears unlikely that Thiago will overtake Haaland.
