Manchester United’s sidelined players, including Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, have reportedly been instructed to train only after 5 PM at the Carrington training complex. This new schedule comes into effect once manager Ruben Amorim and the rest of the first-team squad have completed their sessions and left the facility. Along with Rashford and Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia are also part of the group deemed surplus to Amorim’s plans ahead of the 2025-26 season, and all five have been told they can seek moves away from Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.
WHAT HAPPENED?
As per a report from The Athletic, these five players, who have fallen out of favour, will no longer be allowed to train at Carrington during regular hours. The club has decided that they must start their sessions only after 5 PM so that they remain apart from the main squad. This separation is part of Amorim’s strategy as he prepares his core group for the upcoming campaign.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The same report mentions that Manchester United had already informed the players last week that they were free to train but not with the first-team group under Amorim. Marcus Rashford is said to have returned to the club earlier than others and trained individually. The rest of the players are expected to regroup this week and may continue to train through the weekend. Meanwhile, the main United squad will travel to Stockholm to take on Leeds United in their first pre-season friendly match.
DID YOU KNOW?
Marcus Rashford has been heavily linked with a potential transfer to Barcelona, where he could reunite with Antony, who is also attracting interest from several La Liga clubs. Alejandro Garnacho, however, is rumoured to be on the radar of Premier League side Chelsea, which could see him remain in England if a deal materialises.
WHAT NEXT FOR MANCHESTER UNITED?
Following their friendly clash with Leeds United on July 19, Manchester United will head to the United States for their pre-season tour. During their U.S. trip, the Red Devils are scheduled to play against West Ham United, Bournemouth, and Everton as part of their preparation for the new season.
