Continue On Feature In Google: Google organized its Google I/O 2026 Many big announcements were made at the event, but the feature that caught people’s attention the most was its name: Continue On. Talking about this new feature, it has been introduced with Android 17 and it has been designed for users to easily continue work between different Android devices. It is being said in the information that this feature can be quite similar to Apple’s Handoff feature. Which simply means that the user will be able to start any work on his phone and continue it from there on the tablet.

How will the Continue On feature work?

Google mentioned in its developer blog about its Continue On feature that there is a Cross-Device Continuity Tool which will come with Android 17 i.e. API Level 37. With the help of this feature, a user can start work in an app on one Android device and immediately resume the same task on another device. The special thing about this feature is that this feature will be bidirectional, which directly means that both the devices will be able to send and receive activity.

It is being said in the information that initially this feature will be able to support the transition between smartphone and tablet. For example, if a user is editing a document on the phone and later picks up the tablet, the suggestion of the same app will appear in the taskbar of the tablet. As soon as you tap on it, the work will start from there.

Demo shown through Google Docs and Gmail

Google used Google Docs and Gmail apps to demo this feature to users. Let us tell you that in the demo video, it was shown that a document is being edited on an Android phone and then the editing is being continued further on the tablet linked to the same Google account. Apart from this, in the second video, the Gmail app was transferred from the phone to the tablet to Gmail Web where the same email thread opened automatically. Google has clearly stated that if the same native app is present on the receiving device then the system will launch the same app.

Android ecosystem will get big benefit

Looking at this new feature, tech experts believe that this feature will further strengthen the Android ecosystem. Till now, Apple users were getting great benefit from facilities like Handoff, but now Android users will also be able to enjoy multi-device experience. If this feature works smoothly then it will become easier for users doing office work, study and multitasking.
