Transfer Voucher Gas Connection: The Central Government on Monday took an important decision regarding those LPG consumers who choose to take Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections. By amending the rules governing the supply and distribution of LPG, the government aims to provide greater flexibility to consumers.
Under the new rules, people who take PNG connections will now not only get the facility to surrender their existing LPG connection but will also get the facility to revive it in future.
On May 25, 2026, the government issued the LPG Supply and Distribution Regulation Amendment Order, 2026. This order provides special relief to those consumers who frequently move to different cities or whose place of residence keeps changing frequently. The government says that this step has been taken to provide more convenience and better options to the consumers.
According to the new rules, consumers who have got PNG connections installed in their homes can now apply to surrender their LPG connections within 30 days. In the past, this process was often fraught with confusion and difficulties. The most important change is that now consumers will be provided the facility of “Transfer Voucher”. This means that if a person shifts in future to an area where PNG facility is not available, he can get his LPG connection again using this same voucher.
The government claims that this decision is a step towards providing more convenience and flexibility to consumers. Apart from this, it will also help in making the gas distribution system more streamlined and organized. Experts believe that in the near future, the PNG network will see rapid expansion in major cities of the country. In this context, this new rule can prove to be extremely beneficial for millions of urban consumers.
According to the government, this facility will prove especially beneficial for employees whose jobs involve frequent transfers, as well as for migrant families, students, tenants and individuals who frequently change cities. Till now, many people were hesitant to surrender their LPG connection after getting a PNG connection, fearing that if they needed a connection again in future, they would have to go through the entire process again, including depositing fresh security deposit, completing documentation and going through a lengthy process. However, thanks to Transfer Voucher, this inconvenience will now be eliminated to a great extent.
