×New Delhi: A team of experts from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur will be roped in immediately to fix the technical issues affecting the CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation process, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan ordered on Sunday amid growing concerns raised by students and parents over glitches in the system. He also directed CBSE to undertake a "complete overhaul" of its payment gateway system and spoke to finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman seeking banking support for the same.
Following the directives, the IIT expert teams assigned to review the CBSE re-evaluation portal will implement focused technological improvements in the system and technical workflows. They will specifically examine portal stability and server performance. The teams will also assess the overall robustness of CBSE's IT infrastructure and assist in corrective measures to ensure login authentication, user access systems, and payment gateways function accurately, an education ministry statement said. Pradhan has sought a "glitch-free" re-evaluation process and directed that all necessary corrective measures be taken on priority to ensure a "transparent, efficient, and student-friendly system."
CBSE introduced the On-Screen Marking (OSM) mechanism this year for evaluating Class 12 Board answer sheets. However, it has triggered anxiety among students and parents regarding its effectiveness, leading to an increase in re-evaluation requests.
Last week, the ministry assured that the OSM mechanism was fair, transparent, and in tune with global norms. It also announced a reduction in re-evaluation and verification fees, encouraging students to use the facility if they had concerns regarding their marks.
Over 98 lakh answer sheets were evaluated under the OSM system for Class 12 Boards, the results of which were declared on May 13. On May 15, CBSE announced that students would be allowed to obtain scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets before applying for verification or re-evaluation of marks. The facility was initially available until May 19, but the deadline has since been extended twice, now up to May 26, due to heavy traffic and technical glitches on the CBSE portal.
Taking cognisance of the same, Pradhan directed CBSE to overhaul its payment gateway system.
The minister also held a telephonic discussion with Sitharaman regarding the technical and payment-related issues. During the discussion, it was decided that four public sector banks, i.e., SBI, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, and Indian Bank, would assist CBSE in strengthening its payment gateway infrastructure and integrating it with the post-examination services portal, an education ministry statement said.
"The banks will enable CBSE to put in place robust payment protocols to ensure timely payments, address payment glitches, automatic refunds for excess payments, if any. It is envisaged that the coordinated effort between the Ministry of Finance and public sector banks shall ensure seamless digital transactions, improved payment gateway stability, and smooth experience for students availing CBSE re-evaluation and related services," the statement added.
