Departing Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been hailed by Jamie Carragher as one of the greatest foreign players to grace the Premier League, ranking just behind one other international star.

According to Carragher, Salah’s impact and consistency in England’s top flight place him above Cristiano Ronaldo in the all-time Premier League hierarchy.

The Egyptian international confirmed earlier this week that he will end his illustrious nine-year journey with Liverpool when the current season concludes.

As things stand, Salah will leave Anfield with eight major trophies to his credit and is the club’s third-highest goal scorer in history, having scored 255 goals in 435 appearances.

Ranked fifth in FourFourTwo’s list of the greatest Premier League players ever, Salah holds the record as the league’s top overseas goal scorer. Despite this, his relationship with Carragher has not always been smooth.

Earlier in the season, the Sky Sports analyst accused the “Egyptian King” of “trying to get Arne Slot sacked” during a heated discussion on Monday Night Football.

With Salah preparing to leave the Premier League for the second time, Carragher, the former Liverpool one-club man, believes the 33-year-old’s legacy now stands above Ronaldo’s achievements at Manchester United.

“Among all overseas attacking players who have shone in English football, only Thierry Henry surpasses Salah in terms of output and consistency,” Carragher wrote in his Telegraph column.

He continued, “While some may point to the brilliance of Cristiano Ronaldo, Eden Hazard, Gianfranco Zola, Dennis Bergkamp, or Eric Cantona, none of them matched Salah’s relentless numbers season after season.”

Carragher also noted that although Ronaldo is a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, his best performances came during his spell with Real Madrid.

“Ronaldo’s stints at Manchester United, both his first and second, came before and after his prime years at Real Madrid. When judging purely on Premier League performance and influence, Salah edges ahead of him,” Carragher added.

He concluded, “In an all-time Premier League XI, Salah would be a natural choice in the front three alongside Henry and Ronaldo.”

Reports suggest the winger could be heading to the Saudi Pro League, with long-standing interest from clubs in the Gulf region.

Salah missed Liverpool’s recent defeat against Brighton due to a muscle injury but is expected to be available for FA Cup action. The Reds are set to face Manchester City in the quarter-finals after the international break.
