The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) for Class 12 answer scripts this year. Essentially, the Class 12 answer sheets were evaluated online. Now, starting May 19, the process for obtaining scanned copies of the Class 12 answer sheets has commenced. However, various irregularities are surfacing within CBSE's OSM system. A large number of students, presenting their scanned copies, have alleged that their supplementary answer sheets are missing entirely; one student even claimed that marks for specific questions were not recorded. Meanwhile, another student stated that they did not receive marks in accordance with the step-by-step marking scheme.
Students are lodging complaints regarding the glitches in the CBSE Class 12 OSM system. They argue that these errors are jeopardizing their careers. Let us examine the specific complaints and issues raised by these students.
Case 1
A Class 12 student presented her scanned Mathematics answer sheet and alleged that her supplementary answer sheet is missing. She pointed out that while the cover page indicated the presence of "2 copies" (including the supplementary sheet), the actual supplementary sheet was nowhere to be found. She stated that 16 pages of the answer script are missing, resulting in a total loss of 22 marks.
Case 2
A student reported that he secured an overall aggregate of 84 percent. However, the student alleges that he should have received 70 marks in Chemistry; instead, he received only 48 marks because the remaining marks were simply not recorded.
Case 3
A student has scored over 95 marks in almost all subjects, yet received only 86 marks in Physics; in this instance, as well, the supplementary answer sheet is missing. A question worth a full 4 marks is missing from the evaluation. Furthermore, the student did not receive marks based on the step-by-step marking criteria. The student had applied for an undergraduate program at a university in Singapore; however, having to apply for re-evaluation—a process that will inevitably take time—means it will be too late for the student by the time the process is completed. Lowest CBSE Results in 7 Years; Sharpest Decline in the Science Stream
For the first time this year, CBSE evaluated Class 12 answer sheets under the OSM (Online Marking) system.
Although CBSE claims to have utilized the OSM system for evaluation as early as 2014, a decline has been recorded in this year's Class 12 results. The CBSE Class 12 results recorded this year are the lowest seen in the last seven years. The most significant decline has been observed in the results of the Science stream.
