The festival of Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid) will be celebrated on Thursday, May 28. Initially, the holiday for Eid al-Fitr was scheduled for May 27; however, based on the sighting of the moon, the date was subsequently revised. This change in the Bakrid date led to rescheduling across numerous examinations. The holiday was shifted from May 27 to May 28. Consequently, the alteration of the Bakrid holiday resulted in changes to the schedules of various assessments, ranging from university examinations to competitive entrance tests.
**Examinations Affected by the Rescheduling**
**CUET UG:** In light of the Eid-ul-Adha holiday, the NTA (National Testing Agency) has postponed both shifts of the CUET UG examination originally scheduled for May 28. The new dates for these exams will be announced shortly. The NTA has appealed to students not to panic and has advised them to keep a close watch on the official website for updates. Furthermore, it was stated that the revised examination dates would be released soon, and admit cards would be issued shortly thereafter.
**Gujarat University:** Due to the extension of the Bakrid holiday, Gujarat University has postponed more than 40 examinations. The university has now released revised dates for all affected examinations. Previously, the state government had declared May 27 as the holiday for Eid al-Adha, and the university had scheduled its examination timetable accordingly. However, the holiday date was subsequently shifted to May 28. As a result, the university was compelled to make significant adjustments to its examination schedule.
**Telangana Intermediate Board:** Taking into account the Eid-ul-Adha holiday, the Telangana Intermediate Board has rescheduled the Environmental Education examination to May 29. This examination was originally slated to take place on May 28. However, the timing of the examination—from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM—remains unchanged; no modifications have been made to the schedule duration.
**Law Student Files Petition in Delhi HC**
A law student from Delhi University has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court challenging the university's decision to conduct examinations on May 28. The student contends that the Central Government has designated this very day as a public holiday for Eid-ul-Adha (also known as Bakrid). The petition asserts that conducting examinations on the day of the festival constitutes a violation of the fundamental rights of Muslim students. The petition cites Articles 14, 21, 25, and 29 of the Constitution.
**Bakrid to be Celebrated on May 28**
It is worth noting that Eid-ul-Adha—or Bakrid—will be celebrated across the entire country on May 28. This is a significant festival for Muslims. It is observed in commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim. Initially, the date for the festival was set for May 27; however, based on lunar sightings, the date was subsequently revised. The most significant ritual associated with Eid al-Adha is 'Qurbani' (sacrifice). On this day, members of the Muslim community offer the sacrifice of a goat, a sheep, or another animal. Eid prayers are offered, acts of charity are performed, and festivities are celebrated in the company of family.
