Manchester United have revealed that Matheus Cunha, Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes are in contention for the club’s final Player of the Month award of the 2025/26 season.

The Red Devils concluded their 2025/26 campaign last weekend with a commanding 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, capping off a season that dramatically improved following Michael Carrick’s appointment as Ruben Amorim’s successor.

Under Carrick’s management, United secured 12 wins, three draws and suffered only two defeats across the 17 Premier League fixtures he oversaw.

The impressive 3-2 victory against Liverpool ensured Champions League qualification and confirmed a third-place finish for United.

May proved to be a particularly fruitful month for the team, with triumphs over Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Brighton, along with a goalless draw away at Sunderland.

Manchester United have now officially named Cunha, Mainoo and Fernandes on the shortlist for the final Player of the Month accolade of the campaign.

Matheus Cunha opened the scoring in the clash against Liverpool with a powerful strike from the edge of the box that found the back of the net.

The Brazilian forward also registered a goal against Nottingham Forest, though it came amid controversy. The ball appeared to hit Bryan Mbeumo’s hand in the build-up, leading to a lengthy VAR review. The goal was ultimately allowed to stand, although refereeing body PGMOL later acknowledged that it should have been disallowed.

Cunha did not feature in the victory against Brighton, remaining an unused substitute on the bench.

Bruno Fernandes, meanwhile, was in excellent form throughout May. He provided an assist for Patrick Dorgu at the Amex Stadium and later scored a stunning goal himself, reaching a total of 30 goal contributions for the season.

The Portuguese midfielder also set up Benjamin Sesko for United’s second goal in the memorable victory over Liverpool.

Kobbie Mainoo, on the other hand, maintained his consistent presence in the starting lineup throughout the month—a run of performances that earned him a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Mainoo was also the hero in the Liverpool match, scoring the decisive winning goal that sealed the three points for United.
