New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has rejected allegations of a security breach in its On-Screen Marking (OSM) evaluation system, stating that the URL mentioned in social media posts was only a testing platform and not part of the official assessment infrastructure.
CBSE OSM systemAccording to the board, the link cbse.onmarks.co.in was an internal testing site used for sample review purposes. CBSE clarified that it did not contain real student data, marks, or live evaluation records, and was never used for official answer sheet assessment.
“At the outset, it is clarified that the portal used for evaluation of answer-books bore a different URL, which has neither been compromised nor has the vulnerabilities indicated in the social media post,” CBSE said.
CBSE further stated that the operational evaluation system remains secure and that no breach of actual student information has been detected. The board emphasised that the real marking portal is separate from any testing environment referenced online.
CBSE OSM controversyThe controversy began after a 19-year-old student claimed on social media that he had accessed a CBSE digital evaluation portal. The allegations quickly spread online, fuelling concerns about transparency in the newly introduced OSM system and post-result processes.
CBSE reiterated that safeguards are in place to protect its digital systems and maintain assessment integrity. It also addressed concerns raised after claims of vulnerabilities resurfaced, reaffirming that no compromise has affected actual evaluation processes.
“The Board would reassure all concerned about the safeguards implemented to ensure the integrity of the platform actually deployed,” the statement said.
CBSE said the OSM mechanism, introduced to digitise evaluation, includes grievance redressal systems for students and continues to operate under strict monitoring. It added that ongoing scrutiny and misinformation online have not impacted live systems or compromised examination integrity in any form as stated by CBSE.
