Reports suggest that last summer, FC Bayern Munich’s sporting management informed Kingsley Coman (29) in a rather unconventional manner that he should look for a new club, as per the German outlet Bild.
According to the report, the French winger received a WhatsApp message on 30 July 2025. The message allegedly urged Coman to seriously think about a potential transfer to Saudi Arabia. The sender of the message has not been publicly identified.
For several months prior to that, Coman had been considered a player Bayern were open to selling. It is said that sporting director Max Eberl (52) had already made an attempt in January to convince the French international to move to the Saudi Pro League, but that effort did not succeed.
The club reportedly made another attempt in the summer, shortly after the arrival of Colombian winger Luis Diaz. Diaz had joined Bayern from Liverpool FC for €70 million, and selling Coman—whose contract had only one year remaining—was seen as a way to recover part of that transfer fee and reduce the wage bill associated with the 2020 Champions League hero.
This time, the move went through successfully. On 15 August, Coman signed with Al-Nassr, generating €25 million for Bayern Munich. Bild reported that the transfer fee might initially have been lower. Eberl was said to have faced internal criticism for agreeing too quickly to that amount. Consequently, club chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen (58) reopened discussions with the Saudi side and managed to secure an additional €5 million, bringing the total to €30 million.
Coman’s departure marked the end of a decade-long spell with Bayern Munich, during which he won 20 major trophies. He scored 72 goals for the club, including the decisive winner in the 2020 UEFA Champions League final against his former team Paris Saint-Germain.
After leaving Bayern, Coman told L'Equipe: “Towards the end of the transfer window, some issues arose that made things complicated—details I won’t go into. I wasn’t forced out, but I was informed the club would allow me to leave for financial reasons. I had the support of the coach, the fans, and some board members—but not all of them.” He further remarked, without identifying anyone, “There was a part of the club that wanted me to go.”
At Al-Nassr, Coman quickly made an impact and helped the team capture the long-awaited Saudi Pro League title. Playing alongside global stars Cristiano Ronaldo and former Bayern teammate Sadio Mané, Coman contributed to the 4-1 victory over Damac on the final matchday that sealed the championship.
That title success also reportedly activated additional payments to Bayern Munich. According to the Riyadh-based newspaper Arriyadiyah, Al-Nassr must pay €5 million to Chelsea for Felix and another €1 million to Bayern as part of the terms related to Coman’s transfer.
Kingsley Coman’s decade with FC Bayern is now defined by 20 trophies and one unforgettable Champions League-winning goal, while his next chapter in Saudi Arabia has begun with immediate success.
