Marcus Rashford Transfer Twist: European Powerhouses Eye Move Amid Barcelona’s Reluctance on Manchester United Forward

Marcus Rashford’s proposed permanent transfer to Barcelona now looks increasingly unlikely to materialise.

The Manchester United forward has enjoyed an impressive and highly productive loan spell with the Catalan side. Across 49 appearances, Rashford has netted 14 goals and provided 14 assists — outstanding numbers for a winger.

On the basis of those statistics alone, Barcelona would have been expected to complete a permanent deal long ago. However, the Spanish giants appear uninterested in retaining his services beyond the current season.

Despite having a £26 million purchase option as part of the loan agreement struck with Manchester United for the 2025–26 campaign, Barcelona are showing no inclination to trigger it.

Curiously, while the club insists it cannot afford the Rashford deal, they have committed to signing Anthony Gordon — another left winger — for a fee exceeding £70 million.

In addition, Barcelona have reportedly tabled an offer of €100 million (£86.6 million) to Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez.

Between Gordon and Alvarez, the left-wing and centre-forward roles that Rashford would typically occupy seem well covered, further diminishing his chances of remaining at Camp Nou.

To complicate matters further, Barcelona are now pursuing Bernardo Silva. Reports indicate that if Silva joins, Rashford’s exit would become inevitable, as the former Manchester City star’s salary would leave no financial room for Rashford’s wages.

It is becoming increasingly evident that a permanent move for Rashford is not among Barcelona’s immediate priorities — a situation that will surely disappoint Manchester United. Still, the England international has no shortage of potential destinations.

Aston Villa are said to be keen on bringing him back, while Arsenal have also held discussions over a possible transfer.

According to a recent report from the Manchester Evening News, Bayern Munich have now emerged as another possible destination, with the Bundesliga champions exploring options to strengthen their left flank.

The German club had initially targeted Gordon, but following his imminent move to Barcelona, attention has reportedly turned to Rashford. The outlet noted:

“There’s a chance of Bayern Munich enquiring about Rashford now that Anthony Gordon is on his way to Barcelona. Bayern wanted to sign Gordon before Barca swooped for the Newcastle winger, so they are in the market for a left winger and have signed a handful of Premier League players over the last few years. Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz have all made the switch from England to Germany’s biggest club, for example.”

Although Rashford previously turned down several top European clubs in favour of joining Barcelona, he may now be more receptive to other opportunities. The way Barcelona have managed his situation could prompt him to explore fresh challenges — and Bayern Munich stands out as a particularly attractive option.

Inspired by Harry Kane’s remarkable success in Munich, Rashford could envision a similar path for himself. After enduring a frustrating and uncertain spell at the Nou Camp, a move to Bavaria might be the fresh start he needs.

Moreover, considering the financial resources Bayern were willing to allocate for Gordon, securing Rashford’s signature should be well within their capabilities. For Manchester United, such a transfer could also prove beneficial, providing a timely injection into their transfer fund as they prepare for a major squad overhaul following their return to European competition.
