With both the United States and Senegal entering the final stages of their preparation for the 2026 World Cup, the friendly match on Tuesday, 1 June 2026 at 02:30 WIB at Bank of America Stadium could prove to be a crucial test for both sides ahead of the tournament.

Along with Mexico and Canada, the United States is one of the three host nations for the 2026 World Cup. Meanwhile, Senegal will travel to North America looking to end their preparatory campaign on a high note before the group stage begins next month.

Match Preview: USA vs Senegal

The United States still have one more friendly scheduled against Germany on 6 June, just a week before they kick off their World Cup campaign.

If they lose this match, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will suffer a third consecutive defeat, which would also mark their third straight home loss.

The US national team have conceded seven goals in their last two defeats. However, these results should be considered in the context of playing against elite opposition such as Portugal and Belgium.

On the attacking front, the United States remain productive, having scored at least two goals in five of their last six matches.

Before facing Portugal and Belgium, Pochettino’s squad recorded four wins and one draw at home, though all came in friendly fixtures.

For Senegal, 2026 has been full of drama. Their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph over Morocco in January was briefly nullified due to on-field controversy. However, in March, the Court of Arbitration for Sport reinstated Senegal’s title following their appeal, restoring the championship to Pape Thiaw’s team.

This will be the first-ever meeting between Senegal and the United States. However, Senegal have faced another World Cup host, Mexico, twice before and lost both encounters.

The Teranga Lions have been solid defensively, conceding in only three of their last 12 matches across all competitions.

If the win against Morocco had not been temporarily forfeited, Pape Thiaw’s men would have been targeting their eighth consecutive victory going into this match.

Nonetheless, Senegal’s away form remains a concern. They have failed to win three of their last four away friendlies, losing two of them.

Team News: USA vs Senegal

Coach Mauricio Pochettino defended his decision not to recall players who were dropped from the preliminary World Cup squad earlier this week, expressing confidence in the 26 players he has selected.

Star attacker Christian Pulisic is expected to lead the line on Sunday, supported by Malik Tillman and Timothy Weah.

Weston McKennie is likely to be deployed in midfield alongside Tyler Adams and Sebastian Berhalter, with Brenden Aaronson an option off the bench to add attacking impetus.

If Senegal continue to line up with a four-man defence, the central pairing will likely consist of Moussa Niakhate and Mamadou Sarr, especially with Kalidou Koulibaly sidelined through injury until early June.

Habib Diarra could feature in a three-man midfield alongside Pape Matar Sarr and Lamine Camara, the latter enjoying an outstanding season in Ligue 1 with Monaco.

In attack, Pape Thiaw is expected to select Sadio Mane as a guaranteed starter, with Nicolas Jackson and Ismaïla Sarr completing the front trio.

Sportsmole’s Prediction

Although Senegal will miss their defensive leader, the team has remained collectively strong at the back for some time.

The United States may have the home advantage, but given their recent disappointing performances, another defeat could be on the cards this weekend.

Predicted Score: USA 1-2 Senegal

TribunLombok’s Prediction

This fixture brings together two teams with contrasting styles. The United States tend to play with high pressing and quick transitions, while Senegal rely more on physical strength, defensive discipline, and effective counter-attacks.

Although the US have struggled in recent results, their defeats came against top European sides like Portugal and Belgium. Under Mauricio Pochettino, they have continued to show attacking consistency, scoring at least two goals in five of their last six matches.

Senegal, on the other hand, come with strong momentum. With Sadio Mane, Nicolas Jackson, Ismaïla Sarr, and Lamine Camara in their ranks, the team possess a blend of pace, creativity, and top-level experience. However, the absence of Kalidou Koulibaly could slightly weaken their defensive stability.

Home advantage cannot be overlooked. Playing in front of their fans just before the World Cup often inspires the United States to perform more aggressively. They will not want to enter the tournament on the back of three straight defeats.

Meanwhile, Senegal’s solid organization and counter-attacking quality could trouble a US defence that has shown vulnerability recently.

As both managers are likely to focus more on fine-tuning tactics and fitness rather than the result itself, an open game with goals from both sides is expected. A 2-2 draw seems a realistic prediction given the attacking quality on display and the friendly nature of the match.

Predicted Score: United States 2-2 Senegal
