Anthony Gordon has shared his deep sense of pride and enthusiasm after finalising a stunning €80 million transfer from Newcastle United to Barcelona. The 25-year-old England international has signed a five-year contract with the Catalan giants, realising a lifelong dream to represent one of Europe’s most iconic football clubs.

Barcelona secure a prolific winger

Barcelona have completed the signing of Gordon from Newcastle United for a total package worth €80 million, including add-ons. The 25-year-old winger, who ended the previous domestic season as Newcastle’s top scorer with 17 goals across all competitions, has committed to Barcelona until 2031. Gordon was officially unveiled to the media on Friday evening, shortly before joining up with the England squad for his upcoming international duties.

A dream fulfilled for Gordon

Speaking at his official presentation, Gordon reflected on what the move meant to him: “Once I found out Barcelona were genuinely interested, there was no hesitation. I’ve always wanted to play for Barcelona. It’s the biggest club in the world. This is something I’ve dreamt about since I was a kid. Being here is a dream come true. I understand the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt, but I’m ready for that. I know the history and the legends who’ve worn it before, and that makes it even more special. I’m excited for what’s ahead.”

Eager to play with Catalan stars

Gordon also spoke about his excitement to join forces with his new teammates, saying: “It’s a huge thrill to play alongside Lamine [Yamal] and the rest of the squad. The more quality players you have around you, the better you become. These players are world-class for a reason. They are among the best in the game. When we faced them at St James’ Park with Newcastle, we could barely get a touch on the ball because of their quality.”

Bayern Munich interest turned away

The transfer was completed swiftly, effectively ending Bayern Munich’s pursuit of the English forward. The German giants had been eager to add Gordon to an attacking line that already includes Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz. With his club future now settled, Gordon’s full attention turns to England’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup campaign.
