Chelsea have reportedly reached a decision regarding Liam Rosenior’s future, following the club’s humiliating exit from the Champions League.

The ownership group at Stamford Bridge have made their stance clear on Rosenior after the Blues were eliminated in the round of 16 of the Champions League.

Pressure has intensified on the Chelsea manager as his side continue to struggle for consistency, managing just three victories in their last nine matches, two of which came in the FA Cup.

Since Todd Boehly took charge of Chelsea in 2022, he has shown little hesitation in making managerial changes, demonstrating a ruthless approach as he pursues silverware for the west London club.

After parting ways with Enzo Maresca, Chelsea turned to Strasbourg — another club under the BlueCo ownership — to appoint Rosenior, who had begun to attract attention across Europe for his work.

During his opening nine fixtures in charge, Rosenior suffered only two defeats, both against Arsenal in the EFL Cup. However, since then, Chelsea have secured just three wins and were knocked out of the Champions League despite finishing in the top eight of the League Phase.

His hiring did not receive overwhelming backing from the Chelsea supporters, and there are already calls for him to step down, even though he has been in the job for less than three months.

Nonetheless, transfer journalist Ben Jacobs has dismissed speculation about an imminent managerial change.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jacobs said: “At this point, Chelsea maintain that Liam Rosenior is part of a long-term project.”

He added: “He wasn’t brought in merely as a temporary solution after Enzo Maresca’s departure.”

Jacobs noted that while Chelsea have used similar long-term rhetoric with previous managers under Boehly, those projects were often cut short — meaning a change of direction in the future cannot be ruled out.

He also emphasised that qualifying for the Champions League is crucial to both the club’s sporting ambitions and financial stability. With Chelsea currently sitting sixth in the Premier League, there is understandable concern about missing out on next season’s competition.

With a World Cup summer approaching, several managerial positions are expected to open up, and Chelsea could potentially be monitoring who becomes available after the tournament.

The Blues will look to bounce back in their next Premier League fixture against Everton.
