A recent analysis has revealed how much football fans will need to budget for accommodation during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Kansas City taking the top spot as the priciest city for Airbnb stays. The study, which examined all 16 host locations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, shows that while Kansas City demands premium prices, Guadalajara provides the best value for visitors.
Most expensive host cities
Research conducted by Rustic Pathways indicates that Kansas City will be the most expensive World Cup host city when it comes to Airbnb stays, averaging $539.95 per night. Vancouver follows closely at $461.52, while Boston ranks third with an average of $292.99 per night. Dallas ($251.19) and Seattle ($247.96) complete the top five costliest destinations. These findings were compiled from Airbnb listings across all 16 host cities for the tournament.
Mexico offers the most budget-friendly stays
On the opposite end, the study highlights Guadalajara as the most affordable World Cup host city, with an average Airbnb rate of just $89.06 per night. Mexico City ranks second at $131.66, followed by Monterrey at $134.80. Toronto and Los Angeles, with average nightly costs of $154.51 and $155.81 respectively, round out the five most economical cities. Rustic Pathways emphasized that all three Mexican host cities occupy the lowest positions in the price rankings, making Mexico an attractive option for cost-conscious fans.

Why Kansas City tops the cost chart
The report points out that Kansas City’s average nightly Airbnb price is nearly six times higher than Guadalajara’s. According to Rustic Pathways, major urban areas such as Mexico City and Los Angeles are better equipped to handle the surge in demand due to their larger size and greater availability of rental properties. Kansas City’s smaller housing inventory and high expected demand during the World Cup are key factors driving its premium rates.
