Legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson couldn’t resist taking a swipe at Arsenal after their defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on Saturday evening.

Having already lifted the Premier League title, Arsenal were eager to etch their name in history by capturing their maiden Champions League trophy and achieving a remarkable double.

However, standing in their way were PSG. The Gunners made a dream start, taking the lead within five minutes when Kai Havertz produced a brilliant finish to open the scoring.

Instead of pressing for more, Arsenal reverted to their familiar low defensive block — a tactical hallmark of their campaign — aiming to contain the Parisians. PSG found it difficult to break through until the second half, when Ousmane Dembele converted a penalty after Mosquera fouled Khvicha Kvaratskhelia inside the box.

PSG kept probing for an opening in Arsenal’s defence, but after extra time failed to yield a winner, the Champions League final in Budapest went to a penalty shootout.

Both Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhães missed their spot-kicks, allowing PSG to clinch their second successive Champions League crown.

According to French publication L’Equipe, Sir Alex Ferguson sent a congratulatory message to PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi after the match.

Ferguson, whose fierce managerial rivalry with former Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger defined an era of English football, offered a blunt assessment of Arsenal’s tactics.

L’Equipe reported that Ferguson’s message to Al-Khelaïfi read: “Nasser, this is Alex Ferguson.”

“Congratulations, it was a tough night for you, but you played against a boring team that only defended.”

“Enjoy your holidays, you’ve earned them.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s focus now shifts to the upcoming summer transfer window, set to open on 15 June.
