Germany’s national football team claimed an emphatic victory in their warm-up match ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, thrashing Finland in a commanding display.

Playing at Mewa Arena in Mainz, the hosts—nicknamed Der Panzer—overpowered the Eagle Owls with a convincing 4-0 win on Monday (1 June 2026) local time.

From the opening whistle, Germany immediately put pressure on Finland’s defence. The hosts nearly took the lead in the 8th minute when Deniz Undav’s strike was parried away by goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky.

Julian Nagelsmann’s men continued to dominate possession, alternating between central combinations and wide attacks to stretch Finland’s defensive line.

In the 27th minute, Undav came close again with a shot aimed at the bottom right corner from inside the penalty area, but Hradecky once more managed to deny him.

Germany’s relentless pressure finally paid off in the 34th minute when Undav broke the deadlock. The forward of Turkish descent met Joshua Kimmich’s cross with a precise header to make it 1-0.

After conceding, Finland tried to respond by pushing forward, but their efforts were consistently thwarted by Germany’s solid back line. The first half ended with the score still 1-0 in favour of the hosts.

Germany started the second half in style, doubling their advantage in the 48th minute. Florian Wirtz found the net with a composed finish after receiving a smart pass from Undav, extending the lead to 2-0.

Just under ten minutes later, Undav struck again, scoring his second of the night to make it 3-0. He latched onto a through ball from Lennart Karl before firing a precise shot beyond Hradecky.

The scoreboard changed once more in the 63rd minute when Jamal Musiala added Germany’s fourth goal with a well-placed left-footed strike, putting the game far beyond Finland’s reach.

Despite holding a comfortable four-goal lead, Germany maintained their attacking rhythm and tempo. In the 80th minute, Musiala nearly scored again, but his attempt drifted just wide of the left post.

Finland, meanwhile, struggled to create any meaningful chances and failed to register a single shot on target throughout the match. When the final whistle blew, the 4-0 scoreline remained, sealing a dominant win for Germany in their pre-World Cup friendly.
