The stir has once again intensified in the politics of West Bengal. Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee But after the alleged attack, the party has decided to intensify protests across the state. Meanwhile, the proposed legislative party meeting at Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat was postponed due to lack of expected attendance.
According to the information, 80 MLAs were called to attend the meeting, but only about 20 MLAs could reach the scheduled time. However, the party denied linking it to any internal dissent, saying most of the MLAs were busy in grassroots protests and organizational activities.
According to TMC, the alleged attack on Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday and the incident with party MP Kalyan Banerjee the next day have created anger among workers and leaders. The party leadership says that protests are being organized across the state against these incidents. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that many MLAs were leading protest programs in their respective areas, due to which they could not attend the meeting.
The Legislature Party meeting was to be held on Sunday at Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence, but due to the absence of a large number of MLAs, it was decided to postpone the meeting for the time being. According to party sources, the MLAs who could not attend informed the leadership about the local situation and the ongoing protests and requested to take the meeting forward. After this the party leadership decided to postpone the meeting.
Talking to the media, Kunal Ghosh said that the party has decided to further broaden its movement during the next 48 hours. He told that protest rallies will be organized at the block and ward level on Monday. TMC alleges that party leaders and workers are being targeted by political violence and action is being taken against them even at the administrative level.
The party has announced that protest marches will be taken out on Monday at the block level in rural areas and at the municipal ward level in urban areas. After this, a one-day symbolic protest will be organized on Tuesday at Rani Rashmoni Road in Esplanade, Kolkata, which will be led by Mamata Banerjee.
TMC leaders say that this dharna will not be limited only to protesting against the attacks on party leaders, but the issues of alleged violence after the elections and the bulldozer campaign being run against hawkers across the state will also be raised prominently in it. The party claims that this movement will continue in the future to protect the interests of the common people and small traders.
