Political activity has intensified in Kolkata, where former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not get permission from the police for her proposed dharna. After this, he has announced to take to the streets and protest on Tuesday. Mamata Banerjee had announced a protest on Tuesday in protest against the alleged attack on Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, but Kolkata Police refused to allow any kind of protest. After not getting permission from the police, Mamata Banerjee has decided to take to the streets of Kolkata for the first time after the election results. However, whether they will be allowed to take to the streets or not is not yet clear. There is a fear that the police may stop them outside their house.
Mamta Banerjee had earlier announced to sit on dharna on Rani Rasmani Road. She had said that she would be present on the dharna on Tuesday from 10 am to 8 pm on Rani Rasmani Road, Dharmatala. According to sources, Mamata Banerjee was going to personally participate in this dharna from 2 pm to 8 pm. The protest was part of the Trinamool Congress’ protest against the attack on Abhishek Banerjee, which was a means of sending an important political message to the party.
However, the police did not allow this proposed dharna on Rani Rasmani Road. After not getting permission from the police, just a day before the start of the protest on Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee decided to register her protest by taking to the streets. This development has brought a new twist in the politics of West Bengal, where the ruling party chief itself is not getting permission to protest. This situation is indicating increasing political conflict in the state.
Earlier, during the tenure of the Mamata government, Subhendu Adhikari, as the leader of the opposition, also had to face difficulties in getting permission from the police to hold protests at various places. Even at that time, there were allegations that Mamata’s police often did not allow him, due to which Shubhendu Adhikari had to approach the court again and again. Now the situation looks similar, when Mamata Banerjee herself has to struggle for police permission. This incident has become a topic of discussion in political circles and it is also being considered as a kind of revenge.
This time the police has not given permission to stage a protest on Rani Rasmani Road. As an alternative, the police has proposed to sit on ‘Y’ channel, but there too it has been said that permission will be given only for 2 hours. According to sources, Trinamool Congress had initially not accepted this proposal of the police. This will be the first time after the defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, when Mamata Banerjee will take to the streets and hold a major protest against the government of Subhendu Adhikari. This performance is considered important for the upcoming political scenario, as it will show the unity of the party and its hold among the public.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress has expelled two MLAs, Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha, from the party. Recently, both these MLAs had accused the party of forgery of signatures. Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari made these allegations public again in a press conference, after which Trinamool Congress took strict disciplinary action against both the MLAs and expelled them from the party. This development has come at a time when the party is already preparing for major protests, which has further exposed the internal discord and is posing a new challenge for the party.
