Manchester United are reportedly one of several top European clubs gearing up for a major transfer tussle to secure teenage star Rafael Belinho. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder, widely regarded as one of Brazil’s most promising young talents, has been compared to Neymar for his dazzling flair and superb close control.

Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, Belinho has followed a unique but carefully planned route through European youth football. After leaving Vasco da Gama for a move to Croatia, he drew significant attention by declining a restrictive long-term deal offered by Dinamo Zagreb.

Instead, Belinho opted for a calculated switch to lower-division side NK Kustosija. His move is backed by influential agent and investor Andy Bara, who notably engineered Mika Faye’s big-money transfer to Barcelona. This temporary step allows Belinho to continue his development under close mentorship, preparing him for a high-profile transfer to a major European club when he turns 18 next January.

Manchester United’s management team at Old Trafford are keen to ensure that Belinho’s next destination is the Premier League. Under the INEOS ownership structure, United have made it a priority to identify and sign elite young prospects before their valuation skyrockets, as demonstrated by their recent agreement for Colombian youngster Cristian Orozco.

However, securing Belinho’s signature will not be straightforward, as several European giants are closely monitoring his progress. Barcelona have shown strong interest, with sporting director Deco reportedly travelling to Croatia last year to meet with the player’s family and discuss a potential move.

In addition, Borussia Dortmund have hosted Belinho’s representatives in Germany to present their renowned player development programme, while Real Madrid are also keeping a close watch on his performances and progress.

Because of post-Brexit regulations, English clubs are unable to register players like Belinho until they reach 18 years of age in 2027. Nevertheless, Manchester United are determined to position themselves advantageously, ensuring they are ready to secure the Brazilian prodigy’s signature as soon as he becomes eligible, paving the way for his integration into senior football thereafter.
