New Delhi: India is often considered an affordable travel destination for international travelers, with plenty of backpacker hostels and cheap local food. But recently an American couple spent much more than expected on a month-long trip, sparking a new discussion. Their spending has challenged traditional ideas of tourism in India.
Alex and Amelia, who shared their experience on Instagram, said that the total expense of their trip reached $10,605, i.e. approximately Rs 10 lakh. Seeing this amount he himself was surprised, because he had not expected such a huge amount.
According to the couple, the biggest expense during the trip was on transportation. He visited 13 different cities in 30 days, which involved six air flights, six private car rentals and two train journeys. Due to this fast travel his budget continued to increase.
For a comfortable journey, they decided to stay in premium hotels instead of the usual budget hotels. For this he had to spend an average of 127 dollars per night, i.e. approximately Rs 12,064. He says that if you are not just looking for cheap places to stay in India, the cost of living can be relatively high.
Apart from accommodation and travelling, having breakfast, lunch and dinner in good restaurants also increased their expenses. After this post went viral, people’s reactions on social media have been mixed. Some joked that with this much money they would be living like kings, while others reminded that the couple had already saved a good amount for the trip.
