Only nine days remain before the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off in North America, jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The world’s biggest sporting event will take place from 11 June to 19 July 2026, with Portugal among the participating nations.

In the city of Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara Province, football enthusiast Ignatius Rominus Bria Seran, known as Romi Seran, expressed his strong support for Portugal, believing that the team is ready to make history in this year’s World Cup.

The eighth-semester law student from the University of Nusa Cendana (Undana) Kupang shared his reasons for backing Portugal. According to him, the current Portuguese squad is full of world-class players with exceptional quality.

He highlighted Bruno Fernandes for his consistent performances in midfield, alongside the dynamic duo of Vitinha and Joao Neves, who have brought vibrancy to Portugal’s play.

Additionally, Portugal boasts several top players from Europe’s elite clubs such as Bernardo Silva, Matheus Nunes, and Ruben Dias.

In attack, Portugal features Rafael Leao, Pedro Neto, and Joao Felix, all known for their pace and creativity. The combination of youthful energy and veteran experience gives Portugal a strong chance to claim the 2026 FIFA World Cup title.

“My favourite player is, of course, Cristiano Ronaldo. He is a hardworking, disciplined, and relentless athlete. His fighting spirit on the pitch inspires many people, including me,” said Romi Seran.

Cristiano Ronaldo is also the main reason Romi supports Portugal. Since the 2026 World Cup will likely be Ronaldo’s final major tournament, he hopes CR7 can conclude his illustrious career by leading Portugal to global glory.

Portugal’s manager Roberto Martinez has already announced the 27-man squad for the upcoming World Cup.

The Selecao das Quinas will be captained by veteran Cristiano Ronaldo and include other star names such as Joao Felix, Ruben Dias, and Bernardo Silva.

Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo remains part of Martinez’s plans and is set to make his final World Cup appearance for his country.

Ronaldo, who has earned 226 caps and scored 143 goals for Portugal, will be competing in his sixth World Cup.

Over his World Cup career so far, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star has made 22 appearances and scored 8 goals.

In addition to Ronaldo, Portugal’s 2026 World Cup squad includes several world-class players. Paris Saint-Germain midfielders Joao Neves and Vitinha will be key figures in midfield, supported by Bernardo Silva and Ruben Neves.

In defence, Roberto Martinez has called up Joao Cancelo, Diogo Dalot, Ruben Dias, and Nuno Mendes among others.

Portugal has been drawn into Group K alongside DR Congo, Uzbekistan, and Colombia. On paper, the Portuguese are strong favourites to advance as group winners to the knockout stage.
