Cruz Beckham has come to the defence of his father, David Beckham, after Cristiano Ronaldo claimed he was physically superior to the retired Manchester United and England legend. The Al-Nassr forward, who continues to play professionally at the age of 40, is proud of his athletic build and suggested that his physique surpasses Beckham’s. However, David’s youngest son responded strongly to the Portuguese superstar’s comments.

Ronaldo dismisses Beckham’s ‘normal’ body

The Portuguese icon recently spoke with journalist Piers Morgan in an extended interview where he discussed his career, future, and personal life. During the conversation, the 50-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder, David Beckham, was briefly mentioned. When asked who he believed was better looking, Ronaldo offered a blunt response.

“His face is beautiful, yeah, handsome face,” Ronaldo remarked. “The rest is normal, like it’s normal. I’m not normal. I’m perfecto. For me, [being] good-looking is not just about the face but the whole package. Imagine Cristiano and a normal guy wearing red swim trunks on the Copacabana – you think I’m not going to have a chance with nobody?”

When asked who would attract more attention walking along the Copacabana beach, Ronaldo confidently replied, “Me, 100 per cent,” before adding, “He’s [Beckham] looking good. I like him, he’s a guy who speaks well, I like him.”

The former Juventus forward went on to claim that he may be the most recognised person in the world, saying, “We’ll do a debate for the world: who’s more famous, me or President Donald Trump? I think, globally, even on small islands, people know me more than him.”

Cruz defends David Beckham

In response to Ronaldo’s remarks, Cruz Beckham, aged 20, took aim at the “rest is normal” comment by posting a side-by-side comparison of Ronaldo’s look when he joined Manchester United as a teenager in 2003 against a photo of David Beckham in his twenties. The comparison seemed to favour the former England captain.

Beckham still maintains his shape

Just months before turning 50, David Beckham appeared on the cover of Men’s Health magazine, where he discussed his current fitness routine. The Inter Miami co-owner revealed that he still focuses on two classic exercises: push-ups and pull-ups, even though he once disliked them.

He told the magazine in February: “I used to hate pull-ups with a passion. I could literally do only two or three – three at most. Bob decided to focus on press-ups and pull-ups. I hated both, and now we do them most days. I didn’t have pecs until I met [trainer] Bob Rich. You could say I’ve gone up a few cup sizes as a result. I never really aimed for that; I wanted to stay lean. But since retiring, I’ve added a bit of muscle to my chest.”

What’s next for Ronaldo and Beckham?

Beyond this light-hearted back-and-forth, Beckham will turn his attention to Inter Miami’s upcoming Major League Soccer Eastern Conference final against New York City on Saturday, where Lionel Messi is expected to take the spotlight once again. Meanwhile, Ronaldo will look to lead Al-Nassr to victory over Istiklol in the AFC Champions League 2 on Wednesday.
