Lifestyle Desk – After making puri, pakodas, papad or other fried items, often some oil is left in the pan. However, once used on high flame, the colour, smell and taste of the oil may change. According to health experts, repeatedly heated or burnt oil can be harmful to eat, as harmful substances start forming in it. In such a situation, many people do not use it again in food, while some people throw away all the oil. But throwing away oil every time is also not the right option.
If the oil is not burnt too much and is only left after frying, it can be used for some other household purposes instead of eating. This will reduce wastage of oil and can also save money to some extent. Let us know how.
The doors, windows or some iron parts of the house start making noise with time. In such a situation, the remaining oil can be applied on the hinges with the help of a small amount of cloth or brush. This reduces friction and can provide relief from noise.
Scissors, cutters, trowels or other gardening tools are at risk of rusting. After cleaning them, applying a small amount of used oil can form a protective layer on the metal surface, which reduces the possibility of rust.
Limited use of oil can be done to maintain the shine of old furniture, wooden handles or some household wooden items. However, it is better to test a small area before use to avoid stains or discoloration.
After removing stickers from glass, plastic or metal surfaces, sticky glue often remains. Apply some oil on such marks, leave it for a few minutes and then clean it with a cloth. Due to this the glue can become soft and come out easily.
Some tools kept in the house start getting spoiled if not used for a long time. Cleaning them and applying a light layer of oil can reduce the effect of moisture and help in increasing their lifespan.
Dark colored, emitting smoke or excessively burnt oil should not be used again in food. Also, it is better to limit the use of such oil to non-food purposes only. Filter the oil in a closed container and use it as per need.
In this way, the remaining oil in the pan can be used for many household purposes without wasting it. This not only leads to better utilization of resources, but also helps in reducing unnecessary expenses and wastage.
