Delhi on yellow alert for rains and thunderstorms for next 2 days, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand might also witness hailstorm

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, as the national capital is expected to be hit by rains and thunderstorms for the next 2 days. The weather department said that a new Western Disturbance is getting active from Thursday, which will bring rains to Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh.
According to the IMD, the monsoon will likely advance into several more parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, the Arabian Sea, and the Bay of Bengal over the next 24 hours.

Delhi is expected to witness a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be around 28 degrees Celsius. The IMD said that on Thursday and Friday morning Delhi may witness rains, accompanied by thunderstorms. Rains might continue in the afternoon and evening as well.

Weather in UP and Bihar today

The weather department said that several places in western UP might witness rains on Thursday. The IMD has issued an Orange alert for Meerut, Saharanpur, Shamli and Muzaffarnagar. They have warned that strong winds blowing at a speed of 50 to 70 km/hr will be witnessed in these towns on the day.

On Wednesday, Basti in the state recorded the highest temperature. It was 42 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, for Bihar, the IMD predicted a heatwave between June 5 to June 9.

Hailstorm expected in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan

The Meteorological Department has forecast rains, accompanied by hailstorm for some parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. In Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh, rains, accompanied by thunderstorms are expected to continue for the next few days. Several places in these states will witness very strong winds, which can measure up to 50 to 60 km/hr.

Kerala and coastal Karnataka to witness heavy rains

Heavy rains are expected to hit Kerala, coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka till at least June 9. A heavy rainfall warning has also been issued for various parts of Konkan-Goa, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Karnataka.

In the northeastern states, like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, the IMD has said that there is a possibility of heavy rains.
