POS-KUPANG.COM, ENDE – The excitement ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup is already palpable among football fans across the globe.
One such enthusiast is Father Felix Djawa, Head of SMK Restorasi Wonda and Assistant Priest at the Parish of Mary Assumed into Heaven in Wonda, Ndori Subdistrict, Ende Regency, Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The cheerful Catholic priest has openly voiced his support for Argentina, expressing strong belief that the South American giants can once again triumph in the world’s biggest football competition.
According to Father Felix Djawa, his backing for the team known as the Tango Squad is not without reason. He believes Argentina are the most well-prepared side to face the fierce competition of the 2026 World Cup.
“This time, I’m supporting Argentina. In my opinion, Argentina are the best prepared for this World Cup,” said Father Felix Djawa on Thursday (4 June 2026).
As a devoted admirer of Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi, Father Felix hopes that the Albiceleste can replicate their success from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
His optimism is rooted in the strength and depth of Argentina’s current squad, which he considers to be highly competitive.
Beyond Messi’s continued leadership and inspiration, Argentina also boast several top-tier players who are performing brilliantly at Europe’s elite clubs.
Among the names expected to play key roles for Argentina are Lautaro Martínez of Inter Milan, Julián Álvarez of Atlético de Madrid, and rising star Nico Paz, who represents Como 1907.
The presence of these players is believed to further strengthen Argentina’s chances of maintaining their status as one of the tournament favourites.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place from 11 June to 19 July 2026.
This edition will make history as the first World Cup to be jointly hosted by three nations— the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
It will also mark the first time the tournament features 48 national teams, expanded from the previous 32-team format.
This increase in participants is expected to heighten the level of competition and make the event even more thrilling for football fans worldwide.
With their experience as defending champions, a deep and talented squad, and the enduring presence of Lionel Messi as the team’s guiding figure, Argentina once again stand out as one of the strongest contenders for the world champion title.
The support from fans, including Father Felix Djawa in Ende, is further testament to the enduring allure of the Tango Squad as the world eagerly awaits the grandest football spectacle of all.
