Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Porto winger William Gomes, who has a £69 million release clause in his contract. Meanwhile, Liverpool are said to be considering Sporting CP’s Francisco Trincao as they evaluate potential replacements on the flanks following Mohamed Salah’s departure. Salah, who bid farewell to fans at Anfield on the final day of last season, is now preparing for the upcoming World Cup.
According to reports from Record, Liverpool are one of the front-runners to sign Trincao, whose release clause stands around £50 million. Borussia Dortmund are also believed to be monitoring the Portuguese winger, who previously had a loan spell in the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Caught Offside suggests that Manchester United face competition from several clubs, including Newcastle United, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Roma, for the signature of William Gomes. The report further notes that a potential transfer could be complicated by the fact that Sao Paulo still retain 20% of the player’s economic rights. It is understood that United have dispatched a scout to Portugal for discussions. However, Porto are expected to demand a fee close to the full release clause, which might make United hesitant to proceed with an offer.
Meanwhile, Talk Sport reports that Chelsea could be open to selling left-back Marc Cucurella if the right offer arrives, with Atletico Madrid showing interest. The Blues are keen to recover close to the £62 million they paid for him in 2022, while Atletico are thought to value the player nearer to £40 million. With three years remaining on his contract, Chelsea are in a strong negotiating position.
Although Manchester United are not as deep in right-wing options as some of their rivals, the club’s plans for a major midfield overhaul—expected to cost in the nine-figure range—might make a big-money move for a wide player difficult to justify this summer. Should no deal go through in the coming months, United are likely to revisit the position in the next transfer window.
