TRIBUNJATIM.COM - The name Oliver Glasner continues to gain strength in the race to become AC Milan’s head coach for the 2026-2027 season.
The former Crystal Palace manager is reported to have entered more advanced discussions with the Rossoneri management regarding the coaching position for next season.
Oliver Glasner’s name surfaced as a strong candidate for the AC Milan managerial role shortly after Spanish coach Andoni Iraola declined the offer.
Glasner is currently without a club after parting ways with English Premier League side Crystal Palace following their UEFA Conference League triumph.
The meeting between AC Milan and Glasner, who is expected to replace Massimiliano Allegri, is reportedly scheduled to take place on Tuesday (2 June 2026) local time.
The Austrian coach has been identified as one of the key candidates under consideration by AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale, CEO Massimo Calvelli, and senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The discussions between the Rossoneri and Glasner were described as informative and positive, showing a strong alignment between both parties.
Both AC Milan and Glasner reportedly concluded the meeting with smiles, and further talks are expected to continue at a deeper level.
After the meeting with Glasner, who previously managed Eintracht Frankfurt, Milan plans to conduct evaluations and hold interviews with other potential candidates.
One of the other names that surfaced was United States national team coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Reports suggest that AC Milan had also met with Pochettino, but the coach chose not to pursue the talks further as he remains focused on preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
“The transparency we have shown reflects our commitment to the national team until the World Cup concludes,” he said, as quoted by Goal via Kompas.com.
“Over the past two years, we have received numerous offers, but we have always stated that we will fulfill our contract until July after the World Cup,” he added.
“Of course, we have been approached. I won’t hide anything. Yes, I have met people from various clubs, but those were casual conversations as we have many friends in the football world,” Pochettino continued.
“We have colleagues everywhere, and my representatives are working to explore the best possibilities for the future. That’s normal,” said Pochettino.
AC Milan has also reportedly established contact with one of the preferred coaching candidates of prospective Sporting Director Ralf Rangnick, Mathias Jaissle.
However, Milan faces certain limitations, as they must negotiate with the Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli regarding Jaissle’s availability.
Another name being considered for the AC Milan managerial role is Arne Slot, who was recently dismissed by Liverpool at the end of the 2025-2026 season.
