Manchester United’s strong interest in LOSC Lille’s rising star Ayyoub Bouaddi is now facing a major challenge from Arsenal, according to recent reports.
Though Bouaddi only turned 18 in October, he has already cemented his place in Lille’s starting lineup this season, making an impressive 42 appearances across all competitions.
The French-born midfielder, who has opted to represent Morocco and is set to feature for the Atlas Lions at the upcoming World Cup, is known for his high energy and versatility, capable of fulfilling multiple midfield roles.
Standing at 6’1″, Bouaddi has shown remarkable ease in adjusting to senior-level football in one of the most physically demanding areas of play. His athletic prowess is complemented by what scouts describe as “elite” technical ability, making him one of the most promising young talents emerging from Lille’s esteemed academy.
Given Manchester United’s previous £52 million acquisition of Leny Yoro—another graduate from Stade Pierre-Mauroy—it is no surprise the club has shown keen interest in Bouaddi as well.
United are planning a significant midfield overhaul this summer, with Casemiro’s contract nearing its end and Manuel Ugarte reportedly up for sale.
The club has already reached a £35 million agreement for Atalanta’s Brazilian midfielder Ederson and continues negotiations with West Ham for Mateus Fernandes.
Bouaddi, who has long been on United’s scouting radar, has received consistent monitoring and evaluations from the recruitment team. Should Ugarte depart, Bouaddi is viewed as an ideal long-term partner for Kobbie Mainoo in the club’s midfield setup.
However, the Red Devils are not the only ones eyeing the talented youngster. Several top European clubs are following his progress closely, but Arsenal have emerged as the frontrunners. After clinching their first Premier League title in 22 years, the Gunners are determined to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad further.
Reports from Foot Africa suggest that Arsenal have made Bouaddi one of their “top priorities” for this transfer window.
The North London side reportedly submitted a £52 million offer, which Lille promptly rejected as they value their prized midfielder at up to £60 million. A strong performance at the World Cup could further raise his price tag and strengthen Lille’s negotiating stance.
Other heavyweights, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain, are also believed to be monitoring the situation, giving Lille hope of sparking a bidding war among Europe’s elite clubs.
Although Bouaddi has impressed Manchester United’s scouts, the club’s current transfer budget is unlikely to stretch to £60 million for an 18-year-old midfielder. Considering Arsenal’s rejected £52 million bid, the possibility of Bouaddi donning the red of United this summer appears highly improbable.
