In a recent update, Fichajes reported that Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson. The report suggests that the Red Devils have managed to beat Atletico Madrid in the pursuit of the Brazilian star during this summer’s transfer window.

Ederson has enjoyed a strong season with the Italian side, delivering a series of impressive performances in Serie A. The 26-year-old contributed three goals and two assists in 41 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta last season.

Currently regarded as one of the standout central midfielders in Serie A, it’s hardly surprising that Manchester United are eager to bring him to Old Trafford ahead of the new campaign.

The midfielder’s current deal with the Italian club runs until the summer of 2027, which might allow United to negotiate a favourable fee for his services later this year.

In March 2026, during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Round of 16 second leg against FC Bayern Munich at the Football Arena Munich, Ederson showcased his attacking intent during the warm-up session — further highlighting his all-action style of play.

Known for his aggressive tackling and keen anticipation, Ederson is adept at breaking up opposition play and initiating attacks from midfield. He is not afraid to clear his lines when needed and often sets up promising moves for his teammates with his precise passing.

The Brazilian midfielder also possesses a powerful long-range shot and brings energy and stamina to the middle of the pitch. While his natural role is that of a box-to-box midfielder, he is also capable of playing as a number ten or even in a deeper defensive role when required. However, it remains to be seen how quickly he adapts to the physical demands and pace of the Premier League.

Should the move go through, Ederson is expected to add both quality and depth to Michael Carrick’s midfield setup at Manchester United. His versatility and work rate could make him a strong contender for a regular starting position at Old Trafford in the coming seasons.

At 26, Ederson still has his best years ahead of him, making him a sensible and strategic signing for the Red Devils this summer. Nevertheless, Carrick will likely need to ease him into English football gradually to help him settle and deliver his full potential.
