While FC Bayern Munich are pushing hard to secure the signing of Ismael Saibari, the potential move could have ripple effects across the Bundesliga. VfB Stuttgart, in particular, might feel the consequences as they are eyeing a player being touted as Saibari’s possible successor in the Netherlands.

According to the Dutch outlet Omroep Gelderland, the Swabian club has turned its attention to Kodai Sano of NEC Nijmegen. The 22-year-old midfielder has been one of the standout performers in the Eredivisie and could be ready to take the next step in his career this summer.

Following a successful campaign that earned them a place in the Champions League, Stuttgart are actively working to bolster their squad, with a particular focus on strengthening the central midfield.

In Sano, Stuttgart seem to have identified a player who fits perfectly into their desired profile. The Japanese international is particularly known for his dynamism, his ability to evade pressing, and his skill in dictating the tempo on both ends of the pitch.

Last season, Sano played a crucial role for NEC Nijmegen, tallying eleven goal contributions across 39 competitive fixtures, which helped him attract attention from clubs across Europe.

The situation becomes even more intriguing when linked to Ismael Saibari. The PSV Eindhoven star is reportedly high on Bayern Munich’s transfer wishlist.

If the German champions successfully sign the Moroccan international, PSV would be forced to search for a replacement. Reports suggest that Kodai Sano has emerged as one of the potential candidates on PSV’s shortlist.

This would mean Bayern Munich and Stuttgart could become indirectly involved in the same transfer chain.

However, securing Sano’s signature will not be straightforward for Stuttgart. The Japanese midfielder was already linked with major clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam and Nottingham Forest during the previous winter window.

At that time, NEC Nijmegen refused to let the player leave, but after another strong season, the level of interest around him is expected to rise even further.

As a result, alongside Stuttgart and PSV, several other clubs may join the race to sign Kodai Sano this summer.
