Tezzbuzz Desk- Environment is the basis of our life. Life cannot be imagined without clean air, pure water, fertile soil and greenery. But increasing pollution, deforestation, over-exploitation of natural resources and climate change have posed serious challenges to the environment. World Environment Day is celebrated every year to make people aware of these problems and to give the message of nature conservation.
This day provides an opportunity to promote discussion, public awareness and collective efforts on issues to environmental protection around the world. Schools, colleges, government institutions and social organizations organize various programs to motivate people to save the environment.
World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5 June. This day is a global campaign declared by the United Nations, in which almost all the countries of the world participate. Environmental protection, tree plantation, cleanliness campaigns and awareness programs are organized on this occasion.
World Environment Day was started in the year 1972. In the same year, the United Nations took a historic initiative regarding environmental protection and organized the first international conference on the human environment. This conference gave a message to the world to unite against environmental challenges.
After this, the United Nations General Assembly decided to celebrate a special day every year to promote environmental protection, which is today known as World Environment Day.
The date of World Environment Day was set as 5 June because the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment was launched on 5 June 1972 in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. More than 100 countries participated in this conference and for the first time there was a serious discussion on environmental protection at the global level.
To commemorate this historic event, the United Nations decided to celebrate June 5 as World Environment Day. Since then this day is being celebrated every year across the world.
Today the world is facing serious problems like pollution, global warming, water crisis and loss of biodiversity. In such a situation, the importance of Environment Day increases even more.
On this day, people are made to understand that protecting nature and environment is not only the responsibility of governments, but the duty of every person. Small efforts like planting trees, using less plastic, saving water and maintaining cleanliness can play an important role in environmental protection.
Every year World Environment Day is celebrated with a special theme to focus people’s attention on a particular environmental issue.
Theme of World Environment Day for the year 2024 “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience” Has been laid. Its main objective is to restore land, prevent desertification and promote drought resilience.
This theme gives the message to the people that collective efforts are very important to improve the deteriorating condition of the earth and preserve the natural resources.
Experts believe that if effective steps are not taken in time towards environmental protection, then the coming generations may have to face serious challenges. Therefore, World Environment Day is not just a day but an important occasion to remind us of our responsibility towards nature. If every person takes a pledge to protect the environment at his own level, then the earth can be made safe and green.
